They couldn't do everything. SH3 was the first subsim to have hedgehogs, the first to have any kind of 3D screens and the first to have a visible animated crew. They did everything they could with the time and resources they had.

i only found out about the squids a few days ago i had know about the hedgehogs and depth charges . the only reason i am not overtly concerned about their "missing" deployment is my sources point only 70-100 ships ever had them because it would sacrifice a gun turret(s). that would mean that ships would be part of a task force because they would be at a disadvantage against a regularly armed ship. i just thought it was worth note

Yep, my hope is that sometime that gets worked in. Technically, it's possible with a little bit of modding - all the tools to add something like this exist now.

The game came without a lot of other weapons too. The FIDO and regular old torpedoes sank more U-boats than the squid, and they weren't in the game either... (though I hear progress is being made on getting the AI to use those now).

I would assume (didn't read links) these were later in the war, so the German surface fleet was pretty much neutralized by then. I would assume a couple DD's in a convoy wouldn't need those guns anyways, as their biggest enemy was the U-boat.

Literally ordered directly from the drawing board in 1942, under the auspices of the Directorate of Miscellaneous Weapons Development (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directorate_of_Miscellaneous_Weapons_Development), this weapon was rushed into service in May 1943 onboard HMS Ambuscade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Ambuscade_(D38)). The first production unit was installed on HMS Hadleigh Castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Hadleigh_Castle_(K355)), it went on to be installed on 70 frigates and corvettes during the Second World War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_World_War). The first successful use was by HMS Loch Killin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Loch_Killin) on 31 July 1944, when she sank U333 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unterseeboot_333); the system was credited with sinking 17 submarines in 50 attacks. By 1959, 195 Squid installations had been produced.
