View Full Version : Strange Ballot Propositions...
Here in Los Angeles County, California, the voters passed County Measure B by a 565 to 44% margin requiring actor in adult films to wear condoms. This was pushed by the mainly GLBT-controlled Aids Health Foudation on the premise that it would stem the spread of sexual transmitted diseases. It is a bit silly since the adult film industry has very strict screening rules and, overall, has a much lower rate of STDs than the general populace and much, much lower rate than the gay populace. The new law mandates adult film productions now obtain new permits and the funds will be used to defray the costs of hiring inspectors whose duty will be to go to all filming sites and observe to ensure condoms are being used. This has to be one of the oddest uses of the initiative process in recent memory. I was wondering, given the number of state, county, and municipal jurisdictions, if any of you out there may have seen as strange or stranger issues on their ballots this election cycle?...
<O>
It just means that the industry will move to another state. I understand that Nevada may be their new home.
Oh wow, that's pretty stupid.

It's not like it would be very hard to start filming someplace else. This is all the set you need.

There was an outbreak a short while ago IIRC of STDs in the porn actor/actress community that caused some concern, and probably helped increase the screening checks.
However, the industry has a greater problem ahead of it than legislation and STDs. The Internet. Not only is it easier to obtain videos without paying, but you now have a trend that amateur productions are garnering more attention than professional ones, perhaps due to a more 'real' feel to them, but obviously that varies from person to person.
Furthermore, you have the rise of the pay per view sites that offer customised videos to the viewer for a fee, and anyone can start a clip shop up pandering to whatever the paying customer wants.
The traditional big industries are having to diversify and adapt to the internet or face going down.

Not that I know anything about these kind of things *innocent face* It was Dowly, Dowly told me about it! :yep:
The adult industry is actually adapting relatively well to free streaming sites.
Many of the larger producers of porn either actively check the larger stream
sites and contact them to take down videos or they make deals with them.
Brazzers is a good example, they grew large very fast and are now sponsoring
many large stream sites and in return those sites won't publish their full length videos.
There has also been a change in the style of porn produced by big companies.
It has gotten rougher and parodies of big Hollywood films are being made all the
time. Couple that with what I said above about cooperating with large stream sites
and they have their own market for their stuff right there.
Of course, the file-sharing kind of piracy is still a big issue. :hmmm:

I agree with Dowly the only sector that has been negatively effected by internet porn would be publications they dont make anywhere near the money they once did.And that should not be too surprising as all forms of publication magazines and newspapers in particular have been struggling to keep up with the internet.
There are many ways for porn producers to make a killing over the internet. If anything they may make more money over the internet than they did before.
Who "reads" Playboy anymore? No one does.
I think that they have been pushing the condom thing for several years though in in La La Land now it is the law as others have said they will just move some place else and many are already in South Florida many are also based in eastern Europe as well.
I cant think of the name of it off the top of my head but there was a documentary series about the modern porn industry that went into a lot of detail about much of this
and there was a small out break of HIV 4 or 5 years ago they where doing "Gonzo".
