View Full Version : Getting Depth under Keel when Destroyers are on top of you?
Clicking that Depth under Keel button is a BAD idea when Destroyers are searching for you,... right? I mean, it sends out a ping, and they can hear that and use it to find you, right?
So, do you just always check your Depth under Keel constantly, until you find a convoy? What is your strategy on this?
Thanks,

Personally it's one of the first things I do on finding a convoy but I won't do it after that; the chart (nav map) gives me a pretty good idea what to expect from there on.
I probably tried pinging while around destroyers and such when I was new to it all but honestly can't remember their reactions.

yep, pinging is like saying "here i am"
I was under the impression that this wasn't actually modelled - as in the destroyer's can't actually hear it.
That said I don't use it when there are escorts about for realism purposes.

Yes they definitely hear the ping. Did it once off the coast near Edinburgh and every warship in the area homed in on my position. Now I check the depth when I first spot a convoy and use the map colours to estimate the depth when trying to evade warships.

Nice change from SH3 when you could ping with immunity - 'til the cows come home.
