Went to Hendon yesterday with three friends and despite the 560 mile round trip it was a memorable day and a lot of fun.
As those of you who have previously visited will know, the lighting conditions in some areas make photography a challenge but I done my best with what limited photography skills I have.

Yeah, it's pretty dark in the main hanger, isn't it? :) Still, the WW1 shed is nice and bright..:03:
Looks like you were there on a busy day. We went last year on a bright, crisp December morning and almost had the place to ourselves all day.

Yeah it was quite busy so I decided not to use my tripod which would have helped me overcome the poor lighting conditions.
Half term...you should have seen it over at the Excel center...made Bank at rush hour look tame in parts.

Nice shoots given the conditions.
I notice that the Hunter has Arabic lettering on an old Jordanian Hunter I am guessing so by the pattern.I wonder if it was assigned to a RAF unit then transferred to RJAF unit then re-acquired as a static display.
I was looking at Google earth the other at day my old training base Sheppard AFB Texas I left there long ago in 1995 and came back later for a week for an NCO course.Anyway the dorms there where long in the tooth even in the 90's they had no air conditioning in Texas mind you and I was there in the summer time in 1995.
On each corner they had a static display my squadron had an F-105 the rest where other "century series" jets anyway they tore down the old dorms and the new ones are not on the old footprints but rather a few hundred yards away so now the old static displays are sitting on empty corners with a large open area between them and any other structure it looks a bit funny from the Google earth point of view.
I found out a few years ago that the F-105 on display at Sheppard AFB flew several hundred missions during Vietnam over North Vietnam and also Laos.

Nice, Jim. I looked last night but didn't see the Bloodhound until this morning? Great memories of visits to North Cotes just a few miles down the coast, and to the Bloodhound HQ at West Raynham.

I was actually a tad disappointed with her condition but accept the fact they can't all be in perfect condition.
She is a sought after example in diecast and I must say she didn't disappoint in the comparison stakes.
The highlight for me was seeing POS for the first time (a highly sought after diecast piece but not fitting in with the theme of my collection).

S for Sugar is one of the few remaining Lancaster bombers and my mates on another forum never let me forget I once asked a similar question to yours.
My main interest is in post WWII so how would I know the individual id's of surviving WWII bombers?

Yeah there is a bit of a mix in that hall....the one above is one of your countried Tomahawks and I think there is one of our British equivelants, the Storm Shadow next to a Harrier in a picture I'll be posting as soon as I can get the batch of shots sorted.

Was a bit disappointed with the V1, was hoping she'd be vertical.

The main Imperial War Museum in inner London has a V2 standing upright, not far from a Polaris SLBM, makes for an interesting comparison. :03:

We are also planning an overnight visit (flying via Bristol) to The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeoviltan.

Niiice. I can also recommend the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich for a good look at...well...Artillery, over the years. Not much to see in terms of aircraft, but some nice cannons, and a Maxim gun or two.
Here's one of my pics from the IWM to whet your appetite:

I'm going to pencil that one in for next year, looking forward to their new look. Last time I was there was back in the 1990's I had two visits when they had a free pass valid for six months for a free second trip which of course I used.

If your referring to RAF Museum Hendon, admission is free but I paid £3.50 for all day parking right outside the entrance.

:yep: Yup, the main lobby in fact. That's where most of the big stuff is kept. They have lots of models, leaflets, small-arms and other bits and bobs in rooms at the back covering wars right up to the present day.
In regards to the big stuff, there's a Matilda, Sherman, T-34, Jagdpanther, Mark V WWI tank, a V1, V2, a replica of 'Little Boy', and, somewhat poignantly, a part of the World Trade Center.
I just went to their website to find a list of what's there, and it looks like they're going to be refurbishing the place soon, opening a new look in 2014. So it's going to be closed from Jan 2013 to July 2013, and I have no idea what they'll be doing in terms of whether some exhibits will be moved or others kept, ah, it looks like they're all going to Duxford for conservation and storage. So you might have to either act fast or leave it until after the refurb.

Spot on. She crashed on the frozen surface of Lake Hoklingen, and when the ice melted she slipped beneath the waves, to be recovered in 1973.

Do they still have that Me 110 night fighter mate?
Best regards.

Do they have any Do-335's on display anywhere in the UK? Saw one here at the Air and Space Museum in Virginia a couple of years ago. Was impressed by how big it was! Most of the ac are behind a roped off barrier, so hard to get a better angle for a pic.

Certainly weren't any at Duxford or Hendon which is a shame because they sure look cool.

There is no "Frontwards" or "backwards" with a flag. When a flag is drawn it is customary to put the field on the left. That said, it's common practice when painted on vehicles of any type that the flag is shown with the field toward the front, as if it were seen streaming to the rear. On the other side of the plane I'm sure the flags are "frontwards".
So no "" at all.

Awesome pics of the Lanc! I'm not sure why but the Goring quote on the Lancs nose got me thinking of a story I've heard of where the tail gunner of a B-17 (or rather I think it was a 17, could of been a 24) had written of the side of the plane " Wenn Sie dies lesen können, sind Sie nah genug.", or in English "If you can read this, you're close enough."
Edit: Wow they've got a Bristfit there! Now that is a sweet bird from WW1.

Yeah, some of the artwork on planes was tremendous.
Half way back home we suddenly realised we'd forgotten to visit the hall dedicated to WW1

Well, as long as it wasn't a virus then no harm done. :yep: I've bookmarked it in Amazon so the name will stick on my list, along with Flying Freestyle which Herr B already recommended to me. :03:
You forgot to visit the WWI hall? Ouch, that's a shame, there's some nice kites in there. Next time I'm in the area I'll try to remember to take as many pics in there as I can.
Good to see that one of the 'Quality Street Gang' (and I googled them by the way, love the reference) got a pic with the Rhino and his kid, good memories are made in photos like that.

I've got the Bristfit in Rise of Flight and I was kinda dumbfounded when the the first mission with it was an offencive patrol! Its a really stable gun platform and a fantastic dogfighter. The Fe.2B looks a lot like the Airco D.H.2 with the addition of a gunners postion, different engine and longer wings.

Got to go back to that Sunderland, there's a pic the wife wants to get. At one point there's a sign marked "Mind your head"...the problem is, the wife is so short that she doesn't actually need to duck. :haha: She wants to get a picture of her standing under that sign. :yep:

Is he Goering somewhere? :hmmm:
:O:
It's a good effect you've achieved, but I still want to go.
It's a better effect: I'm going back when I'm in London in Jan. Well, there or Duxford, but Duxford is a bit of a journey out.
