Hey all!! Im kind of new to SH5 and sub sims and just had a random question for you all. Has anyone ever played this game without using time compression??? I come from a flight sim background were TC is not used much and somewhat looked down on and I was just wondering if it is the same over here??
Not me. No TC would be torture and the sim would take forever just for one patrol. Up to 256 or 512 isn't bad, and you'll still get dropped back to 32 if a contact is close by.

You can be the First!
Just report two years later where you are..:D
EDIT: Welcome aboard! :salute:
It's not like Falcon 4.
With out TC you'd spend 4 days, real time, just to get to your patrol area. :o
BTW, welcome aboard :salute:

I have played 3,4 and 5 with no TC at some point and time. It is a very unique experience. 99% of the time, you can simply leave the room and let the sim run. It definitely simulates the sheer boredom and tedium of sea travel when nothing is going on. For a couple of patrols, I would actually record log entries manually, which became another banal exercise. When an encounter occurred, it was NEVER at a convenient time. I remember several months ago, I was trying to get some sleep this particular night, but I was "kicked" out of bed by a report of a ship sighting over my computer's speakers. Turns out it was a hunter-killer task force and I spent the entire night playing peek-a-boo with them until I was convinced they had gone. They never found me, but it sucked because I could not sleep knowing my boat was at risk. I didn't get any sleep until the next night, where I shut down the simulation and literally crashed. I have had similar experiences off and on during my no TC period. If you think aircraft are bad with normal play, they are worse with no TC because you are always worked up.
Playing no TC is a unique experience, but I would not recommend it for everyone. You WILL lose sleep, you will stress out and it will get to you after a while...just like real life. The only thing I was lacking was diesel fumes and the stench of a filthy crew.

Wow, that is seriously hardcore! I honestly don't think I could fit that into my lifestyle but gee it'd be a hell of a lot of fun to do. I'd love to try it. Maybe on a week off or something :hmmm:.
I reackon you'd need windowed mode for that one eh?

K: Surface the boat.
XO: But sir, we have a sound contact at 600 meters!
K: Now dammit!
XO: It sounds like a destroyer sir!
K: I've only got one bar on the wireless Hans, Surface!
I also like flight sims too, fsx to be precise. I never use tc there, it's part of the experience to really fly your 737 in realtime. But it's different in subs. In flightsim Normal flight takes about 3 to 4 hours in realtime and theres usually lot's to do, but in sub, like said before, it takes days to get anywhere, and usually there is nothing to do... Just endless hours of waiting..
Therefore I must say Hinrich schwab is a serious badass
Hi HunterKiller :salute:
Me ,when i play ,i play at 1 TC  Music and time to sleep a bit and contemplate the sea :O:

I work at home and have five computers at my disposal. Dedicating one is not a problem because my gaming rig and work computer are separate machines. Oddly enough, my reason for doing this goes back to something one of my professors from my undergraduate years and I discussed back in 2008. We were talking about incidents with Air Force personnel who run the drones from their command centers experiencing PTSD. I found it curious that these incidents occurred to personnel who operated remote hardware and were essentially outside the primary engagement zones. Since I didn't want to fork a ton of cash to create a virtual cockpit to test the theory on my own, I chose subsims instead a couple of years later. Needless to say, once I was proficient with the sims, I tried my experiment, which was the no TC patrols. It messed me up real good.

Geez, thats a hell of a story, and a hell of a lot of commitment. What'd you find regarding the PTSD?

I have no reason to doubt the stories about the drone controllers.

Wow.
Can't help but respect the investment you put into that research.

That's not hard to fix. A month's worth of dirty socks with diesel fuel added and put under yer desk would do the trick. ;) LOL
Quite a story. I don't think I could do it.... I'd be kicking the cats for relief. LOL IMO, you deserve a real Iron Cross with gold oak leaves and diamonds for playing with no TC. :salute:

It was actually pretty foolish on my part. Had I invested more time and intensity into the experiment, the effects could have been more pronounced. To be fair, there were other motivations for the experiment. In short, I would not recommend that anyone try this. TC is your friend.

i don't know how to plot a search pattern and i think it is making my game mess up, as soon as i sink a ship it sends me back to port and i think it is because i didnt plot a search pattern, all i did was just plot points around where they wanted me to search. i couldn't figgure out how to plot one. thank you in advance, and if this wasn't clear i am just wondering how to plot a search pattern.
Hi and welcome!
There is no need to plot a specific search pattern, I also plot around. Except now with Real navigation it takes much more effort :)
Something else is wrong with your game, do you have mods? I've never experienced that kind of bug, hope someone else can help you out!

This definately sounds like a bug (or hardware issue?) and you will have more luck getting help if you start a new thread; use this button here:

Welcome to Subsim.:)
As troopie said, you will have better luck making a new thread on this. Technically, your question can be considered a thread hijack as it has nothing to do with the topic.

I have tried through SH2,3,4, and 5 to be as realistic as possible. To date I have not completed any campaign due to the slow pace. Today I us 32x with the automated scripts by Trevally and others. (New UI by DarkWraith) that allows me to let things run knowing a search will be done after each 2 hrs at 32x speed.
I also have a baby monitor set up so I can roam the house and listen to the sounds and hopefully catch the alarm calls before getting sunk. So far so good.
My other method is to run at 1 TC until I get fed up and then zoom ahead for a few minutes before saving and shutting down.
Welcome to the forum, and enjoy the game! :yep:

I set out from Kiel Oct 30 1800 US time to begin a new campain in where I only use time compression when I reach the AO. So far its Nov 2 @ 2109 and I have just left Kiel Canal after 8 hrs of travel. Ill keep yall posted on my experiment progress if anyone is interested. If I go crazy enough Ill make a story of all my travels..

If you using no cheats (means 100% realism with no 3rd person view and no contact updates) and if you are using the IRAI-mod then i am interested in the story.
