I had a bit of a dilemma arise whist in heavy fog. I had to get really really close to the merchant ship to obtain a lock, I use auto-aim. This never happened. So here I am some 500 yrds to the ship and still can't get my lock. I can see the ship but can't see the flag (at least the game couldn't) so, I wanted to do a straight on bow shot slightly ahead of the merchant. I remember doing this before...and hitting it.
So, since I didn't have auto-lock, I fired my best straight shot estimate and it would have been good had the torpedo not made a left turn to head back to Manila.:O:
I needed to reset the TDC to 0 or "to Run Straight".
How is this done quickly??

In auto-targeting there is no way to do what you want. There are no TDC inputs to make it happen.

Another reason to hate auto targeting....

Have had that problem too, very frustrating. You can go to the attack map and observe the green line to check its heading but when you're that close to a quarry you rarely have time to muck about like that!

Without a 'lock' on the target, the torpedo will follow the course of the last periscope/TBT bearing. RADAR is very helpful for lining up on a target in the fog, but if you don't have RADAR, set the bearing on the periscope/TBT to '0' (zero), and take your best shot.

Also, torpedoes don't seem to 'arm' at less than 400 yds., so the problem becomes even more difficult.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU
