:salute:

Some big 70th anniversaries are up and coming as well. Also 70 years ago today, the German offensive efforts at Stalingrad were entering their final stages, while in the Pacific, the battle for Henderson Field was raging and the naval battle at Santa Cruz was about to happen as well.

Montys finest hour, and a typically Monty attack, heavy initial bombardment followed by an overpowering offensive.
One has to feel for the sappers, clearing a path through the minefield for the tanks to roll through, at night (although with a nice full moon and clear sky) with shells whistling past overhead, a whole bunch of them at a time.

Read an account of the fighting at Alamein. In particular some of the fighting between the Italians and Commonwealth troops was noted for its ferocity. Salute to all who served. :salute:
