View Full Version : CO2 Won't Go Down

Howdy folks, my first topic here is regrettably about a possible bug I've run into with my current career in SH3. It seems that my CO2 levels aren't reducing when I come up to the surface. I'm currently at 3% according to the gauge and while that's within tolerance, I anticipate needing to do long dives throughout the rest of the patrol (so far, I've been trying to sail north through the Irish Sea in July of 1941 -- you can probably see why I'm staying under for such a long time!)

I don't know if the CO2 has been accumulating as I've been doing this or if it's just from one dive that hasn't cleared up yet, but either way, I'd prefer it if my men didn't have to die from choking on their own stink.

Even after a full day of sailing on the surface, the CO2 levels stay the same. I've tried saving the game while underwater, then loading up and surfacing with no luck; the CO2 refuses to go down even after a whole day on the surface.

I'm using GWX with h.sie's hardcoded fixes, MEP v3, loaded via SH3 Commander.

At this point, I'd be fine with just editing the save file to bring the level back down to zero. However, I've poked through a few of the files and I can't find an obvious place where I could tweak this. Does anybody have any suggestions about how to do that, or about any other fixes for this?

Thanks for any and all assistance with this!

Basic rule of SH3 = NEVER SAVE UNDERWATER. The save is almost always corrupted. You are fortunate that the save even loads and runs after that.

End and exit this patrol. Restart SH3 for this commander. When given the chance to load a new mission, DO NOT load the default IN BASE BEFORE MISSION. Select instead the patrol just prior to the corrupted one, IN BASE AFTER MISSION. That will delete the corrupted patrol you just exited.

You'll need to re-award medals, quals, and promotions earned on that mission before you start a new mission.

Oof, I would really hate to have to resort to this. I'll keep it in mind as an option, but I'd much rather fix the game while keeping the progress I have on this patrol.

I saved underwater and reloaded because I read that it helped with a similar issue in SH4; obviously, they're not the same game, but I thought it wasn't a bad idea on principle. I rolled back to the save that was prior to the underwater one, so hopefully it didn't do any damage.

Not sure what the problem is to be honest.

3% is ambient.

Oh man, is that what it normally stays at in-game and I just never noticed? I'm going to feel like a real horse's patoot if that's the case. I thought I remembered it being at 0% or thereabouts normally.

I think the answer is in h.sie's hardcoded fixes.
Read part 11 of those fixes on this post ............

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. That sounds exactly like what the issue is. I'll just have to work around it and bear it in mind for future patrols.

I have no idea. I don't recall in game either way. I just know 2-3% is ambient IRL.

sorry for the continued coarse change on this thread, but I too have enjoyed ur videos. I had PM'ed u at some point last fall about being stuck at home after surgery and those videos keeping me very entertained. They were funny at times but I learned manual targeting along the way ... thanx Jerry :salute:

now back to topic . Sorry can't help u with the CO2 issue :hmmm:

Well I run GWX + Commander + hardcode patch and I have to say that even with a XXI career in 1944-45 this has been almost a non issue. I got serious problems saving underwater one-two times out of several tens of saves. Granted I still prefer to save on the surface when I am forced to go up because the weather is too bad to use the snorkel properly but otherwise I routinely save underwater without apparent problems.
