I found out that it is the merchant ships that count towards the completion bar for this mission, not warships. I do not remember if the completion bars were filled by the quantity of ships sunk or if tonnage was factored into the mission quota. Sank a few heavy cruisers and light cruisers in either patrol area but did not count, but was fun to make it like real life.
I found plenty of merchants coming around the patrol area closest to Malta. I had to go back two or three times to the patrol area closest to Gibraltar to finally fill the completion bar in that section. Two or three times back to base to fill up on torpedoes.
I tried so many ways to find convoys in the Gibraltar patrol area. So many times to go and dive to use the hydrophone, or surface and look for visuals or hope the radar picks up something.
Lots of patience on this mission. I did finish all completion bars by the date of September 1942. Happy hunting. :salute:
