Hey,
Currently I am on my first mission in Silent Hunter 5 and ran into a question. It's about the patrol area. Can you sink ships in the whole area or do you have to sink them near the red circle (marked by a red rectangle in the picture)?

Happy hunting ;)

Sink them anywhere in the circle to finish the Baltic Operations area.
Sink one ship in the rectangle to finish the PATROL SPECIFIED AREA mission.

Thanks :) Does completing the PATROL SPECIFIED AREA mission have a benefit?

Yes.
It earns you one leader point. Leader points are used for upgrading your crew's abilities. On the HUD, look to the right, and click on the people icon. Click on the crew member you want to upgrade, click the abilities you want and can afford, then click apply.
Is this with a mega mod like OHII?
For no mega mod installed:
Before I installed OHII and ran SH5 v1.2 only with game improvement mods, you had to patrol next to or very near the spot marked on the map for a certain length of time, as in British Coastal Waters and British Supply. Nothing said about sinking ships at that time where you had to patrol, but if you did it counted if you were lucky enough to see any shipping to sink. In doing that that portion was finished. Then you still had to fullfill the tonnage required or sink the required specific ships, but you could do that over a wide range of ocean. The ensuing partols marked with the circle required you to sink shipping in that area for credit... outside of it I assume there was no credit towards the over all mission. I had that problem with finding the Arc Royal aircraft carrier I needed to sink. Total tonnage I assume counted for medals and points for crew moral.
Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong or add to be more specific than what I stated. ;)

Thanks a lot! And @GT182, this is indeed with OHII installed ;)
OK, I thought it might be OHII, but wasn't sure. I do believe it works the same way in OHII as it would for a regular modded SH5 install.
I skipped the first part of the OHII campaign and jumped right onto 'Happy Times', so I haven't run the Baltic campaign. With the next reinstall I'll give it a go. ;)
