View Full Version : Mods to recommend to a....disabled person.

Hello all. I've played SH 3 after desiring to try it out, following Youtube videos. I could get the hang of it, even though I can only effectively use 6 fingers, because there were multiple ways to access certain features. I didn't play SH 4 because I don't like to play as Americans against Japanese(brave underdog support syndrome?). But I do have SH 5 now. However, to a disabled person, the controls are not too friendly...:(

Especially troubling is the feature of moving around a submarine. Moving forward and backwards is very slow, only using the running commans helps. The controls are only modifiable by using the keymapper, but while setting the movement controls to the arrows, other things can get mixed up. Also, the interface is not the best.

Can people recommend me mods that change the interface and controls(or perhaps suggest control setups) that can enable me to use my entire right hand and 1 finger from the left hand to operate U-boats efffectively? I think the most important things to consider are: movement around the sub, and ease of deck/flak gun use. Controlling the path of the sub/plotting is not an issue with me.

Also, where is the mod that causes fires to damage ships? A YT Let's Play talked about it, but I can't find it. Suggestions to mods that solve known bugs are also appreciated. I have a SH 5 patched to 1.2 version.

Try to use SH Keymapper for change controls - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=168297
the working link is at the end of the thread..

also look at this thread - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=190656

You also can try using Voice Recognition:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164926

I use it just because I like it and like to do other things while I'm going to the patrol area, for example, or leaving harbor...etc..

Don't have to use keyboard 75% of the time

The trick is- I'm not used to giving out naval commands like a captain would. And I presume the voice recognition works that way.

Not really. If you look at the thread, there is a link to what commands are available.

You can slightly change them (haven't played with that yet myself, haven't found a need), but realistically - you just follow the template of the command (here is the list for example (http://s3d.skwas.com/redist/shspeech_commands.xml)).

No particular necessity to have a captain's voice. But you do need to train your Window's Speach Recognition: the better it trained, the easier it will understand you.

Right now I can literaly say all the commands in a whisper and it gets it right 80-90% of the time.

That is a relief. I was thinking shouts would be necessary. Regarding the mods...which interface mod would you recommend as the best?

NewUI by TDW is very good. MaGUI looks awesome, but I haven't tried it yet.

Depends on what do you like.

Also, if you have the DVD copy of the game, I would strongly recommend the TDW's .exe patcher: fixes a lot of problems and bugs in the game.

don't know if the case here is me being a complete idiot right now or maybe I should get new spectacles as I don't seem to find a guide on what to do.

Downloaded generic patcher but it asks for s5p patch files to open, I am clueless.

i have jsgme installed with SH3 GWX and it is in use.

can i use same jsgme to enable mods in SH5? If so, how? If not, where do i download latest JSGME? Can't find it through google.

yep. JGSME has no registy/system wide settings (one of the reasons I love this app).
You can just copy/paste the JSGME exe file into SH5 folder, launch it and it will create a new MODS folder inside your SH5 folder. After that - you have two different copies of jgsme... So don't mess up the shortcuts :03:

I generally name them appropriately.

Yep, the 'G' in JSGME stands for 'Generic'. It was created long before Silent Hunter 3 was, and it will work with any game. :sunny:
