Periscope depth bug when loading saved game, plus 2nd Flotilla question

First off, I have the vanilla version off Steam (recently purchased) and it says version 1.4 at the bottom.

My problem is if I ever save a game at periscope depth, when I load the game again my boat appears at P-depth but it seems the game thinks I'm on the surface as I get loaded into surface cruise mode instead of what I saved it to, it's actually quite funny to go into F4 view under water and the crew are all standing on the conning tower under water as well, haha.

Any fixes?

Another question since I don't want to start a new thread, I'm playing in the 2nd flotilla and currently am using a VIIB at the beginning of 1941 with 3 patrols finished. Will I automatically be upgraded to a IXB at some point soon or do I have to use my renown?

Lastly, since I am a noob, is there an all encompassing mod that makes gameplay better, for example easier to kill transports, and not so many damn Hurricane fighters off the coast of France, where the F is the Luftwaffe?

PD fix: This is a known SH3 bug. Do not save while submerged (or near land, a convoy, or another vessel; your map should show no other vessels but your u-boat). SH3 won't let you save if you're under attack or attacking something.

Upgrade: No automatic up-grades; you have to use renown to purchase a new boat and all other "goodies". See note below.

Gameplay Mods: GWX3.0 Gold and/or SH3Commander




Any time AFTER your first career patrol, you can edit your career file to give yourself as much renown as you want. This essetially allows you to purchase whatever you want as soon it becomes available in the game.

Open your c:/documents/SH3 or GWX or whatever name you gave this file/data/cfg/Careers/your character's name/Crew_Career_(largest number).cfg

Scroll to the bottom of the file.

Locate the 3rd line from the bottom.

DeltaRenown=500.00000 <= change to any amount you want
NbSaves=0
ChangedRank=No

Save the file.

When you start your next career patrol, you'll have whatever amount of renown you entered. Go shopping.

Get your barrings with stock SH3, then I highly recommend downloading GWX3.0(GWX Gold).

To make sure no vessel is around you, you should do a hydrophone check submerged. The hydrophone is the best sensor that you have. Even if it does not show on the map, it could still be beyond the visual horizon.
