I re'd Harbinger's nice gift today and am thrilled. I sent him a private thank you.
I have a couple of questions before I delve into the hardcore modding. First, I have Winzip for unzipping and I have had trouble downloading/unzipping some mods; like Sober's colors mod. I never could get a data file to get all the colors files to load at once; only got data files in the 7 individual files, so if you tried to load more than one of them, they cancelled each proceeding one(same problem for DarkWraith big mod). Is RAR better for unzipping.
Now, I stopped watching the videos on UTUBE, because I came to realize, unless I had the same mod and then the same tools, I couln't replicate the play represented on any particular video!!!
So my second question is, what are 2-3 top Mega mods that are most popular now AND would people be so kind to provide a link to one, if it's not on this site. I have tried finding Magnun Opus, but no luck. Any input will much appreciated. I have been using CSP Magui Interface, but I find it cumbersome; like to open tubes is one page to open then close, another to set torps' speed/depth, etc. I have seen videos where the tube opening was just above the firing area.
Now a little update. The correct firing sequence nice people here put me onto, has led me to my 1st medal, 2 new boats, AND almost 400,000 tons of ships sleeping with the fishes!! 62 Merchants, 18 Warships!!! I am starting Happy Times in Aug. 1940, with 2nd Br Coatal Waters all ready in the bag. So, thanks to all again.:salute:
Have a Great Day

Yes, 7zip is the best. And so much easier to use too for extracting files. Even better than Zip Genius.

Is the 1.2 patch all that is needed to then start modding?? not an earlier one 1.1 which I can't find anyway!!!

I thought so; but the first time I tried modding, the proceedures were not clear and there was a responsive community, as here, so I have been very hesitant and nervous about this kind of thing. So, thank you again.

If someone doesn't know I came here because I just bought SH5 2wks ago and searching for some answers found this site. I bought game from Steam, and found out most Mods not compatible. So, Harbinger 1 sent me the disc and I loaded today; then updated a bit ago and when I went to launch, it kept throwing me into Steam version!!! SO I deleted Steam content.
But now, when I try to launch the UPLAY window is making another download!!!! Is this normal???
ALSO, I have VITA Home Premium and I notice that some files, are C:\Ubisoft\SH5 and then some files are C:\Program Files(x86)\Ubisoft, AND both of these files have a DATA file within. Which, where do I put the JSGME &mods??? I hope someone can answer, because this is baffling me.

Addenum to above; the Uplay window finished downloading and when I clicked on install button there, a message said can't because an upgrated version is detected and this file is for original. I don't know what to do. I couldn't find a launcher for 1.2. When I first downloaded from disc, the game launched!!!! I just uninstalled everything and going to try again. Boy, what a pain.

Well, uninstalling and re-installing, allowed the program to be updated to 1.2, and game launches and shows 1.2 on mani screen; BUT my old saved games from Steam are still there. I have asked this before; how do you delete old saved games/profiles???? This doesn't make sense to me. And i can't find any saved files on the big C: file!!
Today has been exhausting and nerve racking. Oh yea, that 7zip worked fine. I was able to sucessfully download & install Sober's colors.

Hey Ney, before you get too involved with your Mods did you select German Voices? If you want the German Voices check out this tutorial on how to install SH 5 with German Voices. Thought i`d let you know early on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_KnrtcsBGM

winzip doesnt have as much issues unzipping 7 zip files as winrar does but winrar is famous for corrupting the files when it opens 7 zip compressed files.
for this reason its best to only use 7 zip to open or create zip files since thats what most modders use.
the big issue depends on what program is used to compress the files, winzip and winrar have no issues unzipping each others files but if 7 zip was used to originally compress the file then the only way to be sure you dont get a corrupted file when its opened is to use 7zip to open it.

Remember to delete the "Documents" which are inside the Mod before enable the Mod, apparently from what I hear in this Forums is not healthy to enable Mods with "Documents" still inside

Yes, delete them after you extract the mod to your desktop. Save the original mod zipfile to a folder where you save all your mods... just in case you need them again. Once the mod folder is on your desktop you can delete the Documents folder or any readme files in the mod. Then use Tasks [you'll see it in blue in the center]/ 'import mod' in JSGME to get the mod in and then install.
