Have the engineers considered the scenario that the man standing at the door will say: "Ooops, that is really high, I think I better don't jump"...? :D

This is nuts and I do not see what purpose it will serve. On the lighter side, I would have serious reservations with jumping at this height. :o

Watched this unfold on the news earlier and his team were quotes as saying they weren't 100% sure if his suit was suitable for such an event

It seems they have. They implemented innovative weather control technology.

Great stuff, takes balls of steel to do a drop like that, particularly at night over enemy territory. Eagles lead the way. :salute:

I am impressed by his guts. But it seem that there are some that ain't impressed by his jump

This is copied from a friends wall(one of his friends wrote it) and I used google translate

"Well if he "suicide fool" survives then it's good .. For him, of course. Why do we need such attempts to .. I'm not impressed with him, I think he could use the money that it costs to fight poverty"

That is because some people are never impressed.
Besides tell those guys that they could use the money they spend on their internet connection to fight poverty, that'll shut them up. :-?

Cause, you know, what has aerospace research ever done for reducing poverty and saving lives in the past century anyway? :hmm2:

There will always be people who say such things, but without people who take those gambles with that backing then we lack certain elements of knowledge. In this case the benefits may appear small, but if and when the technology advances to get more regular space flight and lower earth orbit tourist travel, then knowing how a rapid descent affects the human body will be something that is quite valuable and could save lives in the event of a disaster.
To merge two threads on the front page together, without the financial backing from the Spanish government Colombus would not have made his famous voyage.
So while it would be morally better to spend the money on fighting poverty, there is still much to be gained from such expeditions.

Your friends friend is just naive in thinking the world's poverty and hunger problems can be solved by throwing(someone else's) money at it. I choose to live apart from that cattle mentality.

Very dramatic in the final few minutes. Best show I've seen for awhile.

Those attempts and our space program have in some way, made our life a little easier to live.

Before my generations, babies had to wear homemade diapers, but thanks to the space program, the babies today can wear comfortable diapers.

Back to Felix

When I saw the picture above his head pointing toward the earth I felt uncomfortable, that's because I'm suffering from severe acrophobia.

Seems their server was not adequately prepared.

Probably had something to do with there being an audience 16x greater than ever before for a live streamed event. 8m continuous viewers, and I saw the YT counter at over 365m - a lot of people popping in and out. :o
