Has anybody visited U-995 in Laboe, near Kiel, Germany ?
I am thinking of visiting but I would like some opinions of people who went there already....

I haven't been to that one but I've been to enough of them to know that if you're interested in subs and subsims it will be intensely interesting to you.

Yeah, what could go wrong? It's not like they'd replace it with a plastic fake!

From what I've heard it's a self-guided tour. The sub isn't entirely in its original condition, having been used by the Norwegian navy for many years after WWII, and restored with some alterations - but it's still the real thing. It has notable late-war features, and lots of original items on board. The U-boat memorial next to it is also worth a visit, being the world's main commemorative site for both WWI and WWII U-boat losses.

The only thing better if you're interested in WWII U-boats (i.e. will get you even closer to an original-condition, operational WWII U-boat) is the U-505.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

You should get some answers quickly. A lot of people went to the 2009 subsim meet in Copenhagen, including Onkel Neal, this website's owner, and they went down to Kiel and saw the sights, including the u-boat, and took lots of pictures.
