I don't get the first question but for the second one just dive and listen with the hydrophone

In (stock) Silent Hunter 3, you only sail as a German Uboat.

However, if you turn off limited fuel and such, you can sail forever, solong as ammo holds out.

And you need to hunt for enemies. Best spot, as far as i know, is the area south of the Irish Sea and west of the English Channel, as you'll get ships going in and out of both spots.

ThanksI too am not really sure what you mean with the first question. But with both the Career/campaign and the single missions you can go anywhere you want, as long as ammo and fuel last. And the latter can be solved with the appropriate realism/cheat options. You wont get the mission success if you ignore your orders, but who cares? Same goes for Career patrolgrid order. You won't be punished for ignoring orders.

OK, jokes aside I never go above Tc64, but that´s me.
If you mean how do you know if there is enemies around in Tc mode, well on higher Tc you will notice that the game stutters/lags and the Hdd starts working more then usual. That indicates that there are ships, or planes, within some 20km from you.
Late war, you will know when you get the message: We are taking damage!! And when you get out of Tc: You are dead:dead:
