View Full Version : Unlocking the XXI As Early as possible

At what point can I unlock or use the XXI U-Boat?

The reason I ask is after all these years of playing SH3 I would love to try out the XXI in the early 40's just to see how much of a difference that would have made.

Is there a mod, or a .txt file I have to install/alter in order to get the XXI sooner? or is it hard-coded, and thus impossible to the use of the XXI until late 44?

Install via JSGME, and on a NEW career. And when you want to swap from your XXI career, disable via JSGME to continue your VII or IX career.

Also, look for other mods in the Downloads> Silent Hunter 3>Gameplay mods. Fixes for perma battery recharge to your AA guns being automatic 88cm deckguns.

This is great news! Much obliged.

Edit: And even better now that I'm trying it out in Sept 39' the Brits won't know what hit them -literally, since I have no need to ever surface. One can run on electric until 25% capacity (just in case you need some juice left) then rise Snorkel; rinse and repeat as necessary.

Edit 2: You can travel an astounding 40'572 KM at 13 Knts while submerged!

Sigh. Do a search on actual constraints of the snorkel here. You'll be surprised how much you can't do with it.

Yeah I know about it not really working in Rough waters, and the slow speed (no more than 6 Knots) but after 5 years of playing this game on and off, can't a man dream?

If that's the way you want to play, why not just turn off Limited Fuel and Limited Batteries? Then you'd have a nuke boat in 1939.

Well not everything is as intended, because of the mod, I can't manually use Hydrophones, heck; I'm not even sure they're in fact being used at all!

Edit:Yes, as I just found out the hard way I was tracking the report of a ship and was TC x512 after plotting my intercept course only to have him ram me, sink (no credit for it) and cause a whole bunch of damage; not the least being my Attack Periscope being destroyed, AND my forward Batteries...

Least you know you plotted you intercept pretty damn well

Next time drop out o high tc when you get close to detection range. Then acquire and attack.

Ummm... I didn't make any changes to the hydrophones so they should work OK.

If you're getting the 'hydrophones destroyed Sir' message in port then you're using an old version of the mod - latest version is at the 'SH3 Mods' link below my signature block.

What it had to do with as far as I can imagine, was starting my campaign in Aug/Sept of '39.

I re-started in march '40 and everything appeared as it should.

I'll have a look this weekend - maybe I missed something, but it's the first time this fault has been reported.
