View Full Version : Do you think the mainstream media is racist ???

Got this Idea from the Mark Levin radio show,, he's having a ball with this Univisions report on fast furious., in the last day or so. So is the mainstream media just a bunch of white racist that doesn't want to report on the deaths of mexican citizens,,that was the direct result of weapons that came from a botched government operation,,,..or and all the deaths of black youths being killed in Chicago.. And I haven't heard much about Sioux nation ,,,I guess if you are a half white liberal president you can do no wrong...

You seem to be the only one here who cares what race the president is.

Maybe the question should turn inward?

You know as well as I do, to the white majority, blacks killing blacks is ok, as long as it don't come into our neighborhoods.

Whites expect it, therefore it don't get the attention the George Zimmerman case gets.

Now that sells papers!

(edit: Black on black crime is not new Yubba, nor is our apathy for it, just stop grasping for things to trash Obama on. Plenty of legit things to kill him on.)

Honest news is dead, they are a business now (busineses cater to peoples wallets, not ideals), not something made to protect the people.

Then why do so many folks take it at face value?

I don't buy something because the commercial for it made me laugh. Geico commercials are hilarious, but they stink for auto insurance.

I am more questioning our gullability, than the media itself. We foster this environment.

I bet some guys won't read Fox, others hate the NY times.

Because they cater to pre-existing beliefs.

I want some kind of neutrality back, we have digressed back to the Hearst days of yellow journalism.

A middle-aged black woman once reported me to my manager on the ground of discrimination because I chose to bag groceries for a white woman with three children and a huge order, while she only had 10 items or so. A couple years after that, a young Jamaican woman accused me of being a racist because I wouldn't write her a receipt for bottles that didn't have a 5-cent deposit. Said I would have given her the money if she was white.

If this is what passes as "racism" these days, I imagine something "racist" is said on the major news networks about once every 6 seconds.

The problem is that people are not taught to analyze what they read and consider what interests the source and author may have so unless you learn from your parents or someone else that has influence to actually approach media analytically and read between the lines and digest more than one outlet
you will be ignorant and ignorance is bliss.

People are taught pretty much to obey what they read as fact these days and it flows over to the TV and web.I had one teacher in high school he used to say that TV was the raping of your mind.

Long ago during the Revolutionary War the literacy rate was as high as 98% Massachusetts had that rate back then people also read two, three even four different papers in those days as well so they where better able to analyze a given story.

"Almost every man is a reader," wrote the Reverend Jacob Duche in 1772. Duche didn't have to go far from his church at 3rd and Pine Streets, to find evidence to support this observation. "The poorest laborer upon the shores of the Delaware thinks himself entitled to deliver his sentiment in matters of religion or politics with as much freedom as the gentlemen or scholar... such is the prevailing taste for books of every kind..."

You know you can print anything you want in the US you do not need any special permission from any one of course this means that no review is done as to what someone is printing
or saying on TV it is supposed to be the responsibility of the person receiving the information to do that themselves.Only thing is most people don't.

The mainstream media is in the business of getting people to pay attention. If being racist, or more correctly, agitating racist controversy gets people to pay attention then they'll happily play one group of people against another using any issue and that includes racism.

But what I think Yubba refers to is perceived double standard in the main stream medias coverage of certain events depending on which party a politician is from.

IE if it was a Republican in office then these incidents would be cast as an enormous racial strife problem that the president isn't doing enough to fix. Since the POTUS is a D then these issues are marginalized and ignored.

Now while I think the people he listens to are just agitating controversy for attention like any other media type unfortunately there is some history of this.

I'm dating myself here but back in 1992 we used to have an enormous homeless problem in America. In nightly news reports it was cast as a national emergency that threatened the American way of life,.... right up until Bill Clinton beat Bush senior, then seemingly overnight the problem disappeared from the national medias radar. I mean the problem didn't go away of course just the medias coverage of it. It became not worth covering any more. Why? Because it would be embarrassing to a D president?

That's one explanation but I'm thinking the reason is more pragmatic. Without the election to cast the issue against, who is for this and who is against that, statements and speeches, party positions, etc, the issue wouldn't generate enough news to be worth hiring all the extra help to properly exploit it any more so they moved on to something else. Sorry homeless, maybe next election.

It has been a few elections and you hardly hear about homeless people on the news unless they have the misfortune to be the victim of a violent crime.

Absolutely, because they are liberals.Liberals are the real racists, everything is about skin color to them. They think people of color need a special lift such as affirmative action etc and are not capable of getting ahead on their own merits. They think that whites are always looking to hold down non whites, it's crazy and offensive.I know some black people who have "left the plantation" of the left and see that.Unfortunately this view is not widespread among the black community yet but it is growing, hopefully it will help liberate them from the intellectual slavery they have suffered under for a long time.

Sure you have your left leanings (CNN - Communist News Network) and your right leaners (Fox News - Faux News) but all media news outlets are out for the shock factor. Perhaps it is to gain and hold peoples attention through righteous indignation, or perhaps it's just pushing boundaries as far as they can before someone snaps them back.
Case in point, the current UK Leveson inquiry which has shown just how corrupt and rotten the core of the modern reporting media really is, gross invasions of privacy, intimidation, sleeze, backroom deals, the whole shebang. Heck, one popular theory has the press responsible for the death of Princess Diana all those years ago (paparazzi chasing Dianas car, causing the driver to speed up to try and lose them, and in turn lose control and crash), and I'd certainly wager that they were a contributing factor if not the reason itself.
My primary source of news is the BBC, but that's not to say that the BBC is completely unbias, good God no, it's tragically bias in some cases, however what you have to learn to do over time is to take everything that every news outlet says with a pinch of salt unless you have witnessed it directly yourself. As a popular saying goes 'There are two sides to every story' and quite often we only get to hear one side.

Many people only want to hear one side of the story is part of the problem especially when that one side often times is extremely biased they force the entire world as being black and white and everything has to go though that filter even though things are always much too complex and multifaceted to be viewed this way.

Yubba, it is one thing to be informed. It is another when the information you are being fed daily is constantly in the negative. The news is constantly in the negative. Other than the weatherman, that wants you to hear nothing but sunny skies, the news will report gloom and doom. It sells. Tune into something else for awhile. Honestly, watching and reading the news all day is not healthy. I eventually stopped reading the newspaper. It was getting me depressed. I catch a little of the local news. Read a few spots on the internet. I then go out and enjoy the day.

I don't want a hyphenated-American president. Just an American one.

Remember your Teddy Roosevelt:

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all...

The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic...

There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

The only people making an issue of his race are the people that hate him.

It's ok to be disgusted but show me the president that didn't have malice towards him before during or after he took office. Every leader has enemies, it goes with the job.

But a president is elected to represent the American people, all of us, and I have my doubts that any person who self identifies as a hyphenated American can do that effectively. Our president should not have conflicting loyalties.

If you watch these programs at all it is easy to see. MSNBC has this blond twit and some dude with round glass. No socks on with penny loafers. Does not bother to wear a suit. Fox News crows about how they're the most watched cable news. I'd say that makes them the mainstream media. That pretty much means they can't use the old "why isn't the mainstream media covering this/saying this/reporting on this/giving attention to this" garbage.

Ok, I can buy that but if just one student completes a task in my shop I don't give credit to the entire class for it.

One single right leaning main stream media outlet out of half a dozen left leaning media outlets might just give a person the idea that the mainstream media as a group are indeed ignoring stories and slanting the news to one political party over another.

Now you want to move the goalposts. Even more, you've pre-qualified the content even if it is reported. Not my favorite networks. I don't watch any of them. You said your favorite network was the only one which reported this, and challenged anyone to prove you wrong. I did. All the major news outlets reported it. Now you can admit you were wrong and apologize.

Oh, and if it's about "winning" you can admit you're doing nothing but playing games and apologize again.

Sorry I have to highlight this, they don't even make the news over here anymore, unless it's some form of nude scandal or Prince Phillip has either A: been admitted to hospital again or B: Offended some foreign dignitary with remarks about "bloody savages" or the like. This is the smallest thing (IMO) that you have got wrong, and once again, it's a major fail.
Yubba, why don't you just give up and realise that your opinion is just that? An opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
The fact that 9/10 your "facts" come from right wing sources, yet here we are debating that you can't trust any news source for being unbiased. You agree with this, yet get all of your sources from faux news and other such sources.
Which is it? Fox is completely unbiased and their stories of "eight trillion immigrants want to eat your child's ice cream because they are funded by aids ridden, property price lowering terrorists" are true, or that all news stories have a hint of bias in them, intentionally or not?
Or is it just a case of choosing what you want to believe and then trying to argue the pittance of circumstantial evidence that you muddle together as fact?

No! it's not a stock Republican talking point, it's an observation I have made and sure many others have as well.Everytime a liberal opens their mouth concerning any issue , they find a way to tie it into race(and class usually) , that is how they see the world.I do not see the world in racial terms nor do majority of conservatives.I seriously had a professor use the term "white privilege" in class today, ignorance. There is no privilege to being white.Do whites get special benefits(affirmative action) in this country? NO Yet the average liberal thinks white people are always out to hold minorities down etc, we have a black president, who despite his obvious shortcomings, was elected and would not have been elected if not for white independent voters.

Racism will always exist in small numbers among all cultures, just can't get everyone to not think that way.Institutionalized racism though, is gone.Well minus affirmative action, hopefully the supreme court will change that this year.

Don't mean I agree with him on all points, but that is a fair point.

All men are created equal, it may not have been the point of our slave owning founding fathers, but it is what we have become. Then let them be equal, and stand on merit, and not on what box was checked off on you application, under race. ("omg we need to have a certain percentage of minorities, or the government will get us, and the ACLU will sue us!)

Yes, it is. You got it straight from Rush, Sean and Glenn, and you repeat it without thinking.

Everytime a liberal opens their mouth concerning any issue , they find a way to tie it into race(and class usually) , that is how they see the world.
That's either another talking point or a flat-out lie. Has Mookiemookie ever done that? Soopaman2? Both are cofessed Liberals. How about CCIP? He's an admitted Communist, a real one. You keep repeating these bogus charges without thinking, and you still don't see it.

I do not see the world in racial terms nor do majority of conservatives.
So you say, but you still keep making lockstep quotes.

I seriously had a professor use the term "white privilege" in class today, ignorance.
So? What was his context? Even if you're right about him, you keep tarring all Liberals with the same broad brush. As I've told you a dozen times now, I'm more conservative that liberal, and you make us all look bad. You need to recognize and admit your bias, and learn to start actually thinking. One more time, it's not what you say, it's how you say it, and you keep coming across as a good party member, repeating everything you're told without thinking.

Yet the average liberal thinks white people are always out to hold minorities down etc, we have a black president, who despite his obvious shortcomings, was elected and would not have been elected if not for white independent voters.
Nonsense. Again look at Mookiemookie, a Liberal who thinks for himself, posts reasonably and makes you look like an extrememly less-than-average Conservative.

Have you noticed that even your fellow Conservatives here ignore what you say? There's a reason for that, and you still don't get it.
