View Full Version : Assange mocks Obama via video at U.N. event
(Reuters) - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, speaking via a choppy video feed from his virtual house arrest in London, lashed out at U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday for supporting freedom of speech in the Middle East while simultaneously "persecuting" his organization for leaking diplomatic cables.

Assange, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy since June to avoid extradition, made the comments at a packed event on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Assange mocked Obama for defending free speech in the Arab world in an address to the United Nations on Tuesday, pointing to his own experience as evidence that Obama has "done more to criminalize free speech than any other U.S. president.""It must have come as a surprise to the Egyptian teenagers who washed American teargas out of their eyes (during the Arab Spring) to hear that the U.S. supported change in the Middle East," Assange said.
"It's time for President Obama to keep his word ... and for the U.S. to cease its persecution of WikiLeaks," he said.

A real joker he is, paranoid also because he thinks he will be extradited from Sweden to the U.S. :hmmm:

I think he's doing a pretty good job on himself already....taunting a government that is already after you can only strengthen said governments resolve.

Coincidence? :hmm2: You, seem to have a common weakness for tame speculation about what is right and wrong in a regular thread posted, there are quite a lot anyway, in terms of speculation, I'm hardly blind :shifty:

No, I think it was me that mentioned it before. Right and wrongs have nothing to do with it, I'm just teasing. :03:

Is this guy even relevant?
Is this guy even relevant? He makes his own media profile of himself, and seeks attention.

Good things come to those who wait.
I honestly don't want him. Send his dumbass back to Oz land and leave him be.
His attempts to make himself a martyr is getting old, cowering in a far left countrys consulate.
Comparing him to a yeast infected vagina would be mild. He reeks. A worm, a slimy worm, who will eventually wear out his welcome no matter where he goes.
But I understand he is some of your guys' heroes, So I will stop.
Sorry, I am not being caustic to anyone here, not my intention. I do not like him, he is just smarmy.

I do not draw any hasty conclusions to regard Assange, but the factor remains that he is accused of some crime a few years ago, what will become of it in the end I do not want to speculate, either to confirm if it is a criminal investigation have taken place in the matter, and there is a service fault that precede Criminal investigation, but continued teaching follow.

I am interested in seeing fair justice served to him in Sweden, not influenced by the USA.
He deserves his day in court, and he deserves a fair trial.
I trash Mr. Assange, but I have yet to see a charge leveled on him by the USA to make him fear them. I called for him to be charged for espionage (my opinion is kaput!) , but no formal charges have been filed, so why does he fear Swedish Justice?
He seems adept at blaming the USA for all worldly ills, but not his own behavior that got him here.
Equador loves rapists, or hates America, either or.
I am sure it will buy China, and Russia gold member points though.
Vying for extortion from a bigger power is always the way to go diplomatically, when your country is as corrupt as Mexico, just better able to hide it.
I almost miss the CIA overthrowing these uber-far lefty despots for fun.

He is afraid in the first place to be extradited to Sweden, and then made available to "immediately" flown to the U.S. and it will not work, we are governed by laws that the Swedish Constitution has guaranteed, regardless of other countries' meddling .... when he comes here, he will get a fair trial, regarding what he has been accused of, it's the whole thing, then if he is acquitted, he has the right to go where he wants.

Regardless of my opinion he deserves a fair trial. The alleged victim deserves the same.
As I said, no real charges has been leveled on him here. And Sweden can and most likely will deny extradition should it be asked.
My opinion is kaput as I mentioned, but what is he really scared of?
The USA? Or his accuser?
It gets old being the eternal worldwide badguy. And sometimes the sentiment is unjustified.

The U.S as u said, and then maybe get the aftermath of all cabels that circulated earlier by, among other things he said, and its organization ... but this is dubious when I see it at the moment that is not relevant accusation that would come from D.C .. much of the material was not even interesting can be said.
