Few pics for you guys and gals :)
Had a trip to Barrow Hill Roundhouse at the weekend for their now annual Model Railway Exhibition ‘Model Rail Live’
The Roundhouse is the only preserved engine shed of its kind in the UK, and is always well worth a visit. Me my dad have been going for years and always enjoy it. If you want any more info, their website is the best place to look http://www.barrowhill.org/
Anyway, on with the pics
70013 Oliver Cromwell was on the shuttle train when we arrived

A view of the huge collection of locos and rolling stock in storage there. Unfortunately its doubtful many of those will ever run again :(

And that’s yer lot. A really good day out, definitely recommended if you happen to be nearby. It’s open most weekends on non-event days for you to just wander around.
Sorry for so many pics haha.

Those are all nice, and I would love to see them up close, but the Oliver Cromwell takes pride of place.
Amazing nice, neat :yeah:
Nice shots! Thanks for sharing.
It's good to see Cromwell out and about, I remember it being on the local news when she had her first steam up after being restored to mainline service. IIRC I've been on her footplate way back in the 90s when she was at Bressingham. :yep:
Nice to see a preserved class 71 too, I thought they'd all been scrapped, and the Brighton Belle! Hopefully one day she'll be able to do the London to Brighton run again.
Is the AC Loco Group still at Barrow Hill?

Great shots...I'm off to the National Railway Museum at York next Tuesday but circumstances prevent me from taking my camera.
That's sweet. It inspires me to visit the train room tonight and finish installing the building interior lighting.
These are the last two buildings I finished recently:
Station Platform

Gas Station

The picture of the Deltic Engine took me back, I worked on them in Ton Class Minesweepers and Hunters.
Sigh...... I miss those days.
Cheers

Niiice August, that's a very atmospheric setup there. Please do post some more pics. :yep:
Found some nice old documentaries from the 1980s in regards to the introduction of the Class 91, and the APT experiment, worth a watch if purely for nostalgia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2XXtqQPdDw
As I commented on the first vid, I find it strange how after the cancellation of the APT experiment, the technology was sold to Fiat, who built it into their Pendolino design, which is now doing the job that the APT was designed originally to do. All a bit TSR-2. :dead:

. . . and the APT experiment . . .
I remember getting this for xmas one year -
http://www.lskauctioncentre.co.uk/media/73516/932.jpg
My dad let me play with it once or twice, and then put it away as 'it'll be worth something one day'. A couple of times when my parents were out I'd sneak a quick go of it, but aside from that it's never been out the box. I still have it at my parents' house. :sunny:
I am open to offers though.

What a wonderful place to see the steam engines of old. Nothing like the allure of the steam era. Great model train display. I have my fair share of N scale and HO scale models. I would like to get a nice G scale but it is very expensive.
Thanks for sharing.
August, the buildings look great with the lights blazing away. Model trains are great hobby.

Well, there's one set on ebay for £149.00. So I'd say your Dad was right.
Still a kicker of a thing to hear as a kid though :haha:

In my heart of hearts, I knew he was right. Besides, he had other trains that I could play with.

Thanks Guys,
I'll put some up in a separate thread tonight. The layout is not even close to being done. I got almost all the track laid but have only installed scenery and background stuff on perhaps 10% of it.

But the two small pics we've seen looked great enough to want more, at least then even if it's unfinished we could have an idea of the finished greatness. :yep:
