here's a query for the collective:
I usually run my game thusly:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/skagun/SH3Img26-9-2012_20327_669.jpg

the problem I have is that until today this was always 74%.
I had a little glitch with my shift f2 camera so I disengaged all mods to troubleshoot. and after I reengaged my mods I found that my regular settings added up to 59%. anyone know what could've happened?
I'm only interested for academic reasons. if this is a causal relationship I'd like to know what happened to affect the realism settings so severly.
thanks guys.

lol i use those or used.... those exact settings as well and i got 79% all the time. SH3 is funny like that. it just likes to troll you all day long. My guess is it just got corrupted along the way. Mine recently imploded on itself during a very interesting career but that's another story

Make sure your Game Play Settings in your SH3 file in Documents looks like this

[Current]
LimitedBatteries=true
LimitedCompressedAir=true
LimitedO2=true
LimitedFuel=true

NoMapUpdate=false
RealisticSensors=true
DudTorpedoes=true
RealisticReload=true
NoEventCamera=true
NoExternalView=false
NoStabilizeView=true
NoNoiseMeter=true
NoWeaponOfficerAssist=false

and your file in SH3 looks like this

data/Cfg/GameplaySettings
[RealismPercentage]
LimitedBatteriesRealismPercentage=5
LimitedCompressedAirRealismPercentage=1
LimitedO2RealismPercentage=6
LimitedFuelRealismPercentage=6
RealisticVulnerabilityRealismPercentage=5

This doesn't look like stock SH3.
Does GWX change the menu?

It has been so long since I even looked at stock, that I really do not know.

I think that's a screenshot from the MaGUI mod, or one that uses the same menu theme.

Don't think MaGUI overrides the realism values, though, so the change in % might have been caused by other mods.

I kind of figured that a mod was at work somehow but I've got too many installed to determine which one was the culprit. I did run the Magui f briefly, so it would make sense that could be the source of the change. I'm not too focused on the percentages so I guess the changes could have been in effect longer than I thought.
thanks for the insight guys.

Here's the simplest solution:

Find and open your main game folder - Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/Data/Cfg/GameplaySettings. If you don't know how yet, you can open them with Notepad. This file holds the different settings for the different levels. The last list at the bottom is [RealismPercentage]. Change all percentage numbers to 0 (zero). Change one you always use (say LimitedBatteriesRealismPercentage) to 99. You can make it 100 but then you won't be able to teleport home if you lose your rudder.

From now on you will recieve full renown for every ship you sink, and you can set the actual skill levels for every parameter except the one you chose for 99% to whatever you like.

And congratulations! You just became a modder. :sunny:

IMO this should be a standard setup. Would be nice to see this as an option in SHC.

I can knock up a SH3 Commander mod which will adjust all of this without touching any other basic.cfg variables, allowing it to work with any mod/supermod.

It'll take about 30 mins to make when I find some time over the weekend (after I've completed another mod which I've promised to someone else). Interested?

If I had a working copy of sh3 (long story) I would be.

With thanks to Sailor Steve, here is an SH3 Commander mod which will allow you to gain maximum renown while retaining the realism settings which you wish to play with.

This mod will let you play at 99% realism as long as you check the 'limited batteries' box on the Realism screen. 99% was chosen because it still allows you to teleport back to base if you lose your rudder.

The mod is an SH3 Commander mod and is therefore compatible with all other mods and supermods.
