Just came across this on the CBC site. Happened during a game in Iran....

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/09/21/soccer-video-mini-grenade.html

As someone said in a YouTube comment, sports fans in Detroit are wondering what all the fuss is about :arrgh!:

Soccer is serious business.

I guess the Quran has no sharia laws against being a soccer hooligan.

Good for them, maybe they are not as backwards as we like to think.:haha:

I've been plenty caught up in sports rivalries, and I've been plenty disgusted by my home team, but never to the point of thinking to myself "You know what would be a good idea? Throwing a grenade out on to the field. Yeah."

That was no hand grenade I saw the video those guys are too close a hand grenade would have killed or injured at that range.

That thing would have maybe taken a few fingers off at most.It was most likely a home made noise maker using a little gun powder and they wrapped it in paper and saw dust.Saw dust is used with fireworks to cause a flame.Who ever made it did plan for it be that powerful or they are very bad at making explosives and it was supposed to be more effective.Maybe they where testing a new device to use against Iranian nuclear engineers.

I have no idea how I might know these things.

And the P-51.

The C-47 also saw action there but I'd bet that its seen some since.

As bad as Iran is portrayed, they are so much more interested in killing each other than the west.

Why interfere?:O:

Oh well that's fine then...

Actually the article described it as "a mini-grenade or firecracker" so I don't think anyone is arguing with you. It was very much in that guy's hand seconds before it went off though. Still scary no matter what the person who made it intended.

It does seem a bit like an F-Troop stunt come to think of it.

Well back in the 60's a Dutch company did make a mini hand grenade they where called V40 Mini-Grenades the US military did use them some mostly special forces in Vietnam.

They had a 5.5 yard lethal radius they where not very popular with most troops because due to their small size they where hard not to mishandle.SF guys usually only carried them as a last resort "NVA are about to over run me take out a few on the way down yippie ky yay type weapon".

Also that device did not look like an explosive because the player surely would not have picked it up.

The thing that would concern me about that entire event was that someone designed a device that looked harmless you could have tossed that thing into someones lap and they would not react to soon enough.By the way best advice for an explosion is to lay flat on the ground with your back up you want you butt and legs to adsorb the shrapnel running away from a hand grenade will kill you dead.So you think of that the next time your are drinking tea in Karachi and you hear the tink tink of a grenade. The reason is becuase most of the blast effect and shrapnel goes up and out not so much flat so at the bottom of the radius there is less shrapnel.

that is the V40 next to a golf ball now just think a terrorist could take a similar device and paint it white or some other color and it would not even get noticed.
