View Full Version : Apologies from me and my alter-ego schlechter_pfennig

Albrecht Von Hesse

I want to apologize for the both of us --Albrecht von Hesse and schlechter_pfennig-- for simply having dropped off the face of the earth.

It started with Albrecht von Hesse, and I was too embarrassed then to come back, and so I created schlechter_pfennig. But then I did it again . . .

I have no real excuse, other than miserable health. Forgive me if I choose not to go into details, other than to say it's not life-threatening, just life debilitating.

In addition to apologizing, I want to release all rights to any and all of my mods, whether released by Albrecht von Hesse or as schlechter_pfennig. Use them as you see fit, or not. All I ask is that, if you do, I'd like to be mentioned in the credits. However, as I'm releasing all claims to them you may do what you see fit.

Again, my deepest apologies.

While a heartfelt apology is always appreciated, I see no reason for it. It's not like you did something wrong, or even hurtful. Life dominates all of us and sometimes we have to go where it takes us.

Welcome home. :sunny:

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls when we least expect them. Welcome back!

Guys I'm going out on a limb, but it sounds like he's not back completely. Which I hope is not the case. If I was closer I'd look him up down there in Baltimore. I'll have only one chance in October to see him if he can meet me.

Albrecht, I hope you get well soon and are not leaving SubSim. October 13th I'll be in Westminster, MD at the Carroll County Regional Airport for the Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour. If you can make it come on up and see me, but more importantly come to see "9O9", "Witchcraft", Tondelayo", and "Betty Jane".... their B-17, B-24, B-25, and TP-51C; Just holler out GT182 or ask for Gary from New Castle, DE.

Sorry but this is blatant advertisement on my part guys. :D Only because I'm a Tour Stop Coordinator in New Castle at KILG for them.

And if you ever wondered what it would be like in a Ball Turret, like I have, check this out...

Yeah it is. I've always wanted to get in when they're around with "9O9", but I'm too tall they say and won't fit. :/\\!!

You see, it was the little short guys back in WWII that were made ball turret gunners.

Well I'm glad I'm tall too because you wouldn't get me up in one of them turrets for all the money in the world

£248, you'd get to stay on the ground but still experience the rear turret. :sunny:

But you'd miss the ride of a lifetime Jim.... tho not neccessarily in a turret. But I can say the Bombardier's seat gives a very spectacular view. :D

No argument there mate but I get a nose bleed at any altitude above six feet :)

Thanks for the understanding and kind words guys. They truly do mean a lot to me. I've just always felt rotten because I felt like I just up and left people up a creek with some of my (unfortunately) unfinished mods. LIke making a sincere promise then breaking it.

Not going out on a limb at all. I'm not completely back. Not sure if I'm ever going to make it "back"-back all the way, but I'm also going to try and not just slip back under the waves for the ninth time either.

GT182, there's something cosmic about this. I've lead a rather, ah, interesting and fulfilled life in many ways, so my 'bucket list' is rather short. In fact, there's really only four items that remain:

Go into outer space,
Ride shotgun in a high-performance fighter,
Take a cruise on a diesel submarine, and
Take a ride in a B-17.

I've pretty much given up on #s 1 and 2, but not on 3 and 4. :arrgh!:

Just something about the Flying Fortress that I've always admired. Well, in addition to the aircraft herself, all those who worked on, and flew on, them.

Thanks again everyone, smooth sailing and good hunting!

I was having lunch today with my XO at our local diner when I paid a visit to the head. On the way back I'd noticed this rather elderly gentleman's shirt, notable for an embroidered "B-17 Flying Fortress" underneath an embroidered profile of the aircraft.

I stopped at his table and gestured to his shirt, complimenting him on it. Grinning he asked if I wanted it, pantomiming taking it off. One thing led to another, and we started talking. Turns out he was a B-17 waist gunner during the war, eventually being shot down over the North Sea and being a POW for the last two years of the war.

I finally shook his hand, telling him what an honor it was to have met him. :):salute:

I'll bet you made his day! Not many would have taken the time to talk with him these days.
