View Full Version : First photo of new Robocop suit
Let's see. Confirmed cast for the RC remake consists of Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson.
The director will be the guy who directed the Elite Squad movies and the writer is the one behind Gran Torino.
And then they give us this:

Where's Peter Weller?
Do not want!
I bet they ruin the franchise like the new Superman movie did.
Stop with the freaking remakes, they never ever do it right!:/\\!!
Why do we let Hollywood get away with not finding original content?
Oh yeah, humans are stupid by nature.:haha:

but yeah...it looks bad for Robocop
and Wtf is with the right arm...if it's a remake did they even watch the original!

it's the right that gets totally blown off not the other way around!
:stare:
if you have to remake at least show us that you've seen the original and if you HAVE to redo the suit at least do it right or don't do it at all.

Aww... Now they're gonna ruin Robo Cop. Damn you movie people!
I do not dislike the form of the suit, probably if the colour of the suit was similar of the original one, it would be better. And the suit will not be digital/cgi altered?
More bad that the suit form, is the human hand...

actually I think with that kind of guys on board, this movie might not be what the original Robocop was, but it might be one hell of a movie. I'm actually looking forward to this.

I was looking forward to this. It's very hard to take it seriously with that THING
as Robocop.
THIS is robocop:

Bulky and stiff (shut up!).
If they work on it some more, give it a different color and just make it more
robotic instead of a full-body armor, I might bare with it. :-?

Looks to me like they're taking the same route they took with the Batman costume, trying to make it look more masculine/macho....not that I think they needed to where Robocop was concerned.

Well, you'll get a hand-out flier when you go see the movie.
I'm told it says something like this........
Due to budget problems We had to use leftover parts from many movies for the suit.
Cause our imagination is shot to hell?
Use your imagination and pretend it's different from IronMan, BatMan, etc, and on and on..
Thank You.

Sigh... the new ED-209:

Hey come on now, robotics technology has advanced significantly in the past 20 years. Bulky and Stiff is so 90s.
Even the Sony Aibo robot dog has smooth joints now.

I am pretty sure that the suit will look much better if they use the red light fx they show on the trailer pic:
http://imageshack.us/a/img525/1415/22921750272188307440121.jpg
Those lioghts, placed into the junctions of Robocop's body armor, would make him look pretty badass.
Let's see what CG effects they'll add in the post production. The pics we've seen so far look more paparazzi pics than official production images - could also be just smart marketing ;)

Looks pretty decent... but I haven't seen the original. In original officer Murphy was very essentially shot into pieces - several guys spraying him with bullets. The scene was quite brutal actually - atleast for little kid as I was when watching it first time :D.
Based on trailer alone I'm not impressed. Hopefully future trailers paint a bit better picture...

I agree with Dowly. Robo-Cop the original looks correct. Half human and robot. Not a suit that makes the actor look muscular more than a robot.

Looks like they took away all the tragic elements surrounding Murphy in this new POS.
In the original, Murphy's death was pretty horrible. He was all alone, with a bunch
of known cop-killers laughing at him and about to kill him, and he knew it.
His family thought he was dead, Murphy started to remember at some point,
and tried to make contact with them, but failed. He was still "alive", but again alone.
In this new POS they go and change that too.

If they truly left out the tragic elements of Murphy's situation and the flash back memories without building the rest of the story on that all is lost for this movie. Heroes usually have a tragic past. If this is not the case what good is making a sequel?

Looking at the trailer, Murphy seems to wounded (doesn't look like he died) in a
car bombing. Also, in the trailer, you see his wife speaking to him and later
on you see Robo with his son. :nope:

Something is screwy here. In the original there was the struggle between man and machine as one. Directive, etc. This remake seems to have that as noted in the trailer. However, as you pointed out, Murphy's wife is told he has died in the line of duty in the original. Murphy started having flashbacks. Reconnecting with his wife in the original never occurred that I recall. This movie he does? Speaks with his son? I don't know, perhaps this is how they wish to finish the story. It does lose that tragic life aspect IMO.
After seeing the trailer, I won't be going to the cinema to watch this one.:shifty:
One good positive aspect of this thread and posts after the trailer come out is, I want to see Robocop and Robocop 2 again! Lets see were the DVD is and relax during the afternoon with good movies! :woot:

Fun Robocop fact, a friend of a friend of mine had Peter Weller as a teacher in Syracuse.
Peter Weller is actually a brilliant man.
The biggest mistake they made was replacing him. Robocop 3 sucked.
It's like Micheal Ironside not playing Sam Fisher in Splinter cell games (grunts at Blacklist)
Considering the state of remakes lately, Uhh, wow, oh boy...
I am sure the call of duty generation will enjoy it. But in the grand scheme of things it will be a fart in the wind, crappy remake, because remaking, and reinventing a franchise is easier and cheaper in Hollywood, than an original idea.
Disgusting, the re- make mania has taken over.
Get Netflix, watch the originals. Yechhhh remakes are money grabs, and disrespectful.

From what I can tell, it looks like the theme has shifted to "bad corporation controls man in the robot", (boring) instead of the original's "fight crime with Robocop and get revenge".

This guy's history is a little shaky, too :haha:
Say you look at a controversial war thing, like the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. At the end of the day, somebody ordered the bomb, in that case Eisenhower. So you can judge Eisenhower.
But, with Michael Keaton, I'm all in. Still looks like it will be pretty entertaining.

If the remake is bad, at least we still have the original... which I should watch, as well as the Terminator series (except for the one with Christian Bale. Apparently that sucked.).

Yes, you REALLY should watch the original Robocop. And Terminator, especially Terminator 2
which IMHO was way better than Terminator 1, don't watch Terminator 3 or 4, those
sucked balls.

I have to disagree. The Terminator was a perfect movie in its way. It was a closed loop, told its story perfectly and was immensely satisfying. The sequel, while technically a better film, pretty much trashed the story of the original, changing it so it now made no sense.
As for your opinion of the latter two, could you possibly be any cruder?

First was great, but T2 just made it the movie it was supposed to be.
We can agree to disagree, but imho, T2 was way better than T1.

I could, but do I want to?
