Here we go.

15 december, 1941 in the south chinese sea, USS Sotinoru

"Captain we have detected a airplane at long range, closing quickly" reported radar operator Mike.
"Ok, ALARM!. Dive to persicope depth" replied leutinent Hoffstat
The Gar type US submarine began it's decent into the ocean. The Sotinoru was equipped with an experimental radar. A newer more reliable version had come out but the day before the boat was to be reffited pearl harbor was attacked. They were rushed into action with the older technology.
The sound of multiple airplanes flying over head broke Gordon Hoffstats train of thought.
"hydrophone, can you here depth charges?" questioned Gordon. At the same time he motioned to the CE to increase speed. They had been practicing for months to deal with these sorts of situations.
"Nothing sir"
"Keep sweeping if you hear anything tell me. CE get ready to emergency surface if anything hits us" With that Gordon went to the little section in the bow cabins they had curtained of with a paper and lightwood so the officers could have some privacy. There we took out his one of his two books. On the Sotinoru he allowed each crew member one light novel. They had to share these books around with the other crew members. This kept everything tidy and orderly. He allowed each officer two books. Then he made some little shelves having some woodwork skill to house all these books. This seemed to counter boredom pretty well.

Explosions rocked the boat back and forth. "Damage report stat" yelled Gordon.
After a minute he got a reply from one of ths sailors. "No damage sir but it was close"
"What direction did the bombs explode?"
"We don't know there was an explosion and we were knocked down"

"Hydrophone, keep scanning for depth charges. CE Johnson keep diving but slowly we want to be able to pull out of it easily"
"Copy that sir, close bow planes a little!"
The boat had stopped rocking and Hoffstat walked camly into the command center. This was good, his crew had got there first taste of action and they were under no more imediate danger. The planes weren't bombers and so they typically only carried one bomb of the size that just exploded.
"40 metres"
"Thats good ease her out" said one of the sailors currently at the main control panel of the submarine. Johnson looked to Gordon for approval. Gordon nodded and turned to the comm on the nearby wall. "Change of duty!" he bellowed through the intercoms. For the next few seconds the entire boat came alive with the sound of men settling into their stations.

Cruising across the surface, Gordon looked out over the endless ocean. On the conning tower Josef scanned the horizon looking for enemy ships. A sailors head popped out of the conning tower. "Lieutenant, we have a message from pearl Harbour"
"I will be down in a second"
Gordon walked through the submarine until he reached the radio room. Their was no one there but pinned to the wall was the message, 'New mission orders- Go to co-ordinates 21.207,166.33'
Gordon knew a lot about navigation. That was just north of wake island.
