Has anyone else out there thought that for a project, subsim should design and build its own submarine? Just wondering because looking at the UC3 Nautilus got me thinking and designing. :hmm2:

Already been working on it.

Brainstorming, writing it down and all that jazz.

Depends on funding. The know-how is there from working in seaway. Anything else I can aquire advice.

I say we remake the nautilus, put it in SH3, give it some laser torps and walla:yeah:

Ive had this discussion with the guys at the U-boot HAHD forums....one member found blueprints online....somehow it came to switching out the aft quarters for a lounge with dancing women and a flatscreen tv......

:hmmm: Decisions decisions...

Maybe the first step we need is to design and number-crunch using some of the available software. I know Autodesk has a Computational Flow Dynamics and an engineering oriented program. Normally this would cost about $4,000-$5,000, however, if there are Educators or Students among the group of you who want to design this 'sinking canoe', you can acquire this for free via this http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=home.
If we had one person use Inventor (engineering) and another using CFD, we could, maybe, get this project into the water. :arrgh!::hmm2:

I searched out the UC3 Nautilus, the thought of doing this gets the juices flowing. I'm retired now and would struggle the physical work, I used to be a welder and loved engineering. My hands are like a babies bum now, :haha:.

Are we talking about a replica of a U-boot (type VII I presume) or a simple submersible for recreation :hmmm:

Could be either. If we have a replica (slightly scaled down) VIIC we would be living the dream of being on a U-boat, but it might also be more expensive.:hmmm:

Presume we are going to build it our self.

how much can we contribute with each?

What shall we use this sub for?(play Subcommand IRL for fun and make fake torpedo attack against some tanker)

or just have it for recreation

Here's some ideas of a such sub

http://www.silvercrestsubmarines.co.uk/mediumtouristsubinfo.html

They cost more than we could contribute, but they could give us some idea.

And if we should have enough to buld a sub, where should it be placed? USA, Europe?

There are tons of pictures already, so are you looking for something more specific?
