View Full Version : Do you need a keyboard mod?

One complaint that I have seen a few times here is that from lets say SH3 to SH5 the keyboard layout is different.

unless a specific one already exists, I can write a simple exe which will correct this during gameplay and then you can shut it off when you are done..

if so, please give me a keys list and I can quickly punch this out.

I have been thinking of doing this anyway because it seems that the provided SH5 key layout isn't entirely accurate to begin with...

sounds good, but i didnīt know exactly, think there is something like that.

I use mods for german language and have now Problem with the keyboard.

But perhaps there is someone who need this.

At any rate, a good offer:up:

This does have problems. Perhaps you can do better. :sunny:

Well I am not looking to out do anyone, nor do I have the skill to make such an interface. I plan on writing 2 scripts and then compiling them for use by all. Simply put, you will launch the exe prior to playing.. or even during play.. and it will re-assign your keystrokes so long as it is running. (you push the Up arrow and the computer understands 'W' and so on)

I found an easy to manage SH3 keymap here http://www.allgame.com/game.php?id=44636&tab=controls

and I will put that against the current settings for SH5 so that your keyboard accepts the buttons as if you were playing SH3. NOT A MOD to the game or it's files what so ever.. just a background process telling the computer that 'A' is now 'B'...

I might even throw in a macro or two in some unassigned areas such as opening all torpedo doors in Salvo with one button.. All stop/periscope depth/time 1x could be another..

I will even display the script itself for those virus weary.

The second exe I will make will let you write your own key re-assignments for other games and with another free program compile those key assignments to your own exe for even other games..

I'm just doing it 'cause it's fun for me..:D

If you could incorporate a way to reverse the y mouse axis, that would be ace.

Im half way done.. This was more of a :/\\!! undertaking than I originally thought.. Simply because not only are the two keysets different but each game has some functions that the other doesn't.

A good portion of SH3 relied on keystrokes or soft buttons to deliver you to different stations in the sub, whereas in SH5, you walk.. and there does not seem to be any shortcuts (keystrokes).

No snorkel in SH5 that I can find and so on.... This is nutz... Well.. hopefully someone will like it...:o

Yes, sorry for the late answer.
You see, a lot of us old school gamers can only play anything resembling a 1st/3rd person game with the y axis (vertical axis) reversed, and almost all games these days have this option (obviously not SH games).

Please, could you also throw in keys mapped to snorkel up and down? I've found nothing so far that works. Thanks.
