Godd day everybody,

since I'm new to this forum I thought I'd introduce myself; I have been playing SHIII and SHIV on and off, and now am back to SH III without GWX and LSH. Tried them both and enjoyed them, when they ran... My PC runs a Windows 7 with 32bit and 2GB RAM, meaning that LSH 5.1 crashed regularly. GWX worked better, but with awfully long loading times and not completely stable either. Now I'm getting along without any greater mods, filling in with smaller ones I like (and which happen to work...)

A smaller question (I know, more pertinent to the Mod forum, but anyway) concerns what the German modders call "Füllfunk", i.e. radio messages (not talking about grammophone files) from other U-Boats, admiralty etc. Is there anything like that outside GWX, LSH and the like? I mean, in the unmodded original the U-Boats aren't even properly informed on who entered the war etc...

Thanks and so long,

Lutz

Welcome to the forum:salute:
As for your question you will get radio messages to proceed with hostilities against the USA for example. You will also get historic messages like the capture of german enigma codes

I play with SH3 commander and im perfectly capable of running GWX but I feel that the added relaism isnt for me. Can you run by me any smaller mods, mainly ambience mods, not ones that dramtically change up gameplay.

One last thing id say get Sh3 commander ASAP and put on randomised tonnage. This makes the game just a tad more realistic as all ships dont have a fixed tonnage amount.:salute:

Hey, that's quite a welcome!

Thanks a lot guys, especially for the links to radio mods and for directing me towards SH3 Commander. I should have mentioned that I do indeed use it already, as well as, of course, the JSGME. Just terminated my first Feindfahrt on what I hope will develop into a longer career. (No manual calculating and charting of torpedos, though, I'm not yet ready for that).

I'll go and install danurve's RadioLogExpanded immediately - it is in English, though, I suppose? No problem for me, but from a German perspective messages auf Deutsch would be more immersive (but I'm not volunteering to translate 11.200 messages...).

I am amazed to find this particular forum so active. Seems like a lot of people chose not to move on to SH4 and 5. Is it for technical reasons that so many of us cling to SH3 or because of the particularities of the U-Boat war in the Atlantic?

Cheers,

Lutz

If you want your messages in German

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=549

Radionews Mod for SH3.
With this Mod the player gets the daily news of the german high command (OKW), during the time of Sept. 1939 - May 1945

It is based on the original High command news messages and several war diaries.

Because my origin files are all in german, the Mod is in german language. It would be too much work to translate all of them
(up to 2.000 messages during the war).

This mod is still a work in progress and will take a while until it is complete.

Also are all the days included, when german U-Boats have been sunk at open sea by allied forces (ship/plane/else) complete 09/1939 - 05/1945
