I have been inspired to write a story by all your question and patrol adventures. I hope you like it. (Note: This is set in somewhat of an alternate history)
2nd of July, 1940, grid DM 60Km North of Havana 3:00PM
"Kaleun we have a radio message coming through" reported Otto, who was on the radio.
"What does it say?"
"Resupply at the Torinta 30Km west of your current position then go to Havana and patrol the waters outside the habour"
"How the bloody hell did they get a resupply ship this close to the USA?"
"I beleive that it is disguised as a american partol ship" answered the CE of U-123, Adolf.
"Ok mantain speed and set course towards KS Torinta, Otto send a return message saying that we will comply with all haste"
"Yes sir!"
With that Karlheinz the Kaleun of U-123 went to bed.
2nd of July 1940, Grid DM resupplying at the KS Torinta 5:00PM
Karlheinz wandered around the deck of the KS Torinta while he waited for the U-123 to be re-fueled and re-stocked. He went down to the U-boot for to get his crew ready for departing. But as he stepped onto the conning tower a horn rang out and someone yelled, "Get the Submarine under now we have an american destroyer spotted heading towards at about 10 Knots. Their was a mad scramble as Karlheinz swung himslef into the command room. "We have an american ship heading towards fast, we have to get under now."
"Sir should we risk getting our food supplies onto the u-Boot before going under?" queried one of the sailors loading up the u-Boot.
After considering this for a minute Karlheinz decided to place tough rations rather then risk getting caught. They would return to the KS Torinta after their mission was complete for another resupply before heading home. "Everyone get below deck where pushing of" reported the CE. They pushed away from the KS Torinta it would take a 1:00 to get far enough away from the Torinta to make a safe dive plus 30seconds to get under. If this was right the ship would be just thirty seconds away.
