Ran the starfforce remover and it says there are no protection drivers to be found.Am i doing something wrong in allowing it to put it in program files x86.When I try to create a new folder it says it is invalid or write protected please choose a valid path.

Are you sure your graphics card has the punch to run SH3?Integrated graphics didn't work too well with games that needed 3Dcards some years ago - although I remember reading somewhere that nowadays they are more powerful.

It says on the spec check it will run perfectly as I meet both min and recommended settings,
The problem is it wont even launch I cannot even input the cd key.
Try setting the screenresolution temporarily to 1024x768. Or make the screen drivers scale it to whatever is your native resolution. The game is a bit picky about screenresolutions. It doesn't like widescreens.

try just installing it on your desktop or in another folder, read some things elsewhere that installing it in the programs x86 is a big no no
its an old game. windows 7 doesnt like that old stuff. it has to be installed under 'COMPATABILITY.' right click SH3 icon look for 'compatability' tab and drop down box. choose the windows version you used before. i used 'windows xp service pack 3' then look for 'privaledge level' further down tab. click 'run this programme as administrater' close tab then give it a try. i have windows 7 home edition. and this is what i did for it. i have had no probs so far. good luck, i hope it helps.
just had a look at the (x86) file. and thats where my SH3 file is and its been running fine.
and if you want to uninstall it you will have to ensure that you have removed all known traces of the SH3 programme/files etc. youll have to do a manual search then delete it all otherwise it MAY corrupt the new files.

And I have Win 7 64bit. And it still worked. So it's not required I think.

just had a look at the (x86) file. and thats where my SH3 file is and its been running fine.If you have it installed here (SH3 install folder inside c:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) ), then you need to run it as an administrator. And perhaps even disable UAC entirely to work without problems at all with modding. Running any application with a account with administrator priviledges is a security risk. Consider the damage a worm/trojan/virus can do if it infected SH3.exe and has free reign on your pc.
But if you install it into your own custom created folder on your drive then all these extra settings in the shortcut properties and jumping through hoops is not necessary. Not for SH3, not for SH3 Commander, not for JSGME, not for SH3Gen. Only administrator priveleges are needed for installation and patching. (of any application)

But if it is not in Program Files then removing files is alot less of a hassle due to UAC interference.

cheers

cheersWell, I disagree with your "it has to be installed under 'COMPATABILITY.'". I don't think it has to be all ways. But I must admit, I never had that starforce disk. So that may be the difference.

i had this same problem with Windows 7 Ultimate, this is how i got it working:-
Uninstall all SH3 files, including the folder in "my Documents"
Use CC Cleaner (google it, its a free app) to clean all files and search registry for further files
Install SH3.....DO NOT LAUNCH THE GAME on completion!!!
Install 1.4 patch if your game isnt already patched Still DO NOT RUN GAME
Install GWX3 or whatever supermod you want to run on SH3
Run the game from the desktop supermod icon
This is what i did and it works fine, i dont have to adjust any compatability settings or run as administrator etc.

After failing to get my CD version of SH3 working i went to steam and bought the triple pack of Sh3,4 and 5.Have already downloaded 3 and 4 and so far they are working perfectly.Sh5 is in process of being downloaded.
I do have a couple ofquestion however, Is SH3 via steam patched to 1.4b?
Q2 The grey wolves mod will be a definite I need advice on installing other mods would i create in the silent hunter 3 folder, I am thinking it would look like this
prgram files(x86)>Steam>Steamapps>common>Silent Hunter 3>Mods(newly created folder).
Sh commander and Jsgme will also be dfinites.
JSGME will make a MODS folder by default on it's own. You can set it up with a custom name though. It's just not standard anymore. But whatever you put into it, JSGME expects it to adhere to the SH3 folderstructure. So dumping any sort of files and folders in it isn't going to work if you try to enable it. rtfm!
I do not suggest the game or SH3Commander be installed somewhere in the Program Files (something) folder though. (to circumvent Windows' UAC protection issues) I know you have Steam that put it there. But the Steam game install folder can also be chosen to be a custom folder. It should be mentioned in the Steam FAQ somewhere. But it might not be possible to move the entire Steamapps folder if you allready have game installs in it. You may want to consider relocating it. I made sure to give it a place to my own liking from the start.

Steam will be the latest version of SH3
I have not installed any old game under compatibility, but I do have UAC disabled.
Modern games have a tendency towards saving game data in the My Documents folder to circumvent any UAC interference.
