When Der Alte announces "1/2 a bottle of beer for all", which beer was it? Spaten or Beck's? Can't quite make out the label and up until now, assumed it was Beck's.
And what exactly did he mean by "half a bottle"? Did he mean half a pint bottle? Did they package such a thing? The bottles I can make out look like 3/4 pint (12 oz.) bottles.
As a lover of beer, I have to know.:D
I always thought it was Beck's.

Becks was the only Brewery at that time who had Green Bottles. Spaten had always Brown Bottles never any green ones.
As many times as I have watched that movie, I have never noticed before the guy completely zonked out in the left of that clip, lol.

I think it was meant to be a joke about each man getting (only) a half a bottle after making it back to the surface after being under for so long.
In the book, the beer on board was being saved for after the first ship was sunk, but they had such bad luck that the Kommandant decided to treat the crew: one bottle for every two men.
