View Full Version : Loading saves at sea: CTD
Hi everyone,
alright, I am getting used to playing SH3 in 16:9 format. Now I need to take on another problem I had for some time:
Loading saves I made at sea crashes the game with fatal error in SH3.exe right after the "not so long ago...." message. The confusing thing is: it happens EVERY time on EVERY save i make at sea, regardless of my position, depth in water or contacts nearby. This means when I save in mid-atlantic 1000 miles off shore with only fishes nearby: crash.
Any ideas about that? thx....

If you try to save while you're under water the game will crash.
Try to save when you're on the surface and far away (>50-100km) from land.

I've been there and I fear that there is not much to be done. I had this problem once and the only thing that helped was only saving in ports or leaving my laptop hibernating if I had to leave the game while the boat was still at sea. :shifty:
You could try searching the forum for a thread that discusses the effect of file indexing and read-only attributes on save game files. For me the save game problem was solved after I changed the read-only attributes and took indexing off from the save game files (and actually all of SH3 as well, IIRC).
At least some other people have tried this solution as well but as far as I know unfortunately with little luck. Good luck to you, if you decide to try taking indexing off and changing the attributes. Otherwise, not being able to save at sea is sometimes good too - not having a decent save game forced me to learn some much-needed cautiousness in playing.
@ menibonian
that exactly is the point of this thread: it happens everytime, regardless of the situation.
I do not simply reload a save after death, but I simply do not have the time to play for 8 hours a day to finish a patrol or leave my PC running at night just so I dont need to save.

That sucks!
To be honest as sublynx said before there is not much you can do in this case. Either try a new fresh installation or try to start a totally fresh career to see if you have better luck.
I'm sorry for not being able to help more with this one mate. I know it sucks but I would actually try a fresh install, just to be sure that all works OK

Any ideas about that? thx....How did you determine that there is nobody else around. Did you do a hydrophone check (yourself)? That is the surest way to know, since most units are clearly audible.
Marine wildlife in your your 3d sphere are they are units too. :O:
@ Pisces
Ok, you convinced me, next time I try to move as far away from every water body as possible to minimize the risk of shrimp being there, as well as detonating a nuclear torpedo to be exactly sure there are no biologic units around. :haha:
