15meters

Hi.. First Post here. I figure after the couple bits of advice I have received here.. figured I'd join..
I bought Silent Hunter 3 a few months ago in a PX in Kuwait to kill time.. Had fun with it.. Saw SH5 on Gamers Gate.. bought, downloaded and installed.. then after an insanely huge 'update' I hit the open sea.. I guess I liked the gameplay more in SH3 than 5.. but the graphics are way better in 5.. I could go on.. but I want to point a few things out with my recent useage of SH5.. This game is trying so hard not to let me enjoy it..
Screen shots dont work on the download version. not with Shift+F11 (which I learnd here) or the apparent Prt Scrn button per the games displayed keyboard layout. Print Screen saves an image to the clipboard which you need to dump somewhere (I use PowerPoint) but it captures your desktop with the UBI soft window.. not the view of the game. Shift+F11 didnt appear to do anything until I Alt+Tab'd out and saw a little splash window outside the game which states something like 'would you like to begin a screen capture series' or something.. but you click OK.. then.. well nothing...:shifty:
I have learned two tricks so far though.
When you are running up on a convoy or anything else you dont want to get visually seen by. (sonar and sound dont count in this, only vision) dive your sub to 15 meters and extend your periscope to it's fullest, your scope will barely peek above the water, nobody can see it, but you can see and lock targets. someone gets TOO close, just adjust the height of your scope and poof...
Next tip is the CO2 alarm bug.. Under normal conditions, I fully get what it is and when it occurs.. but sometimes it won't let go.. You can be surfaced in calm weather with dudes on the deck.. but air will not be replenished.. I figure somewhere a value is not being written properly during gameplay and so it gets stuck.. to the peril of your crew and mission. I figured out how to release this. it aint a perfect way but it DOES work. Dive to periscope depth or lower once there, Save the game, Exit and reload that game.. resurface and continue.. wallah.. you've got air..
However, this leads to what I find to be the most nerve racking problem in the game.. returning to a saved game..
When I return to a saved game, the Weather and sea condition is almost always different. All map markings are completely gone, but even worse, the computer AI suddenly knows you are there.. and sometimes there is far more formidable force there than was before..
Yesterday, In my frustration of trying to kill "Force H" battleships in the med.. (actually trying to find them is more accurate) I decided to take my fully loaded sub and do a 'drive by' on the Malta harbor. got down there, used the free camera to scout out the harbor and mark everything.. saved the game and went to bed.. today, I opened the save game, and was ready to pounce on the 12 ships and subs waiting.. no map markings.. oh well.. up scope and no BS.. 32 active and moving destroyers. most of whom are moving in my direction... the comic irony was the AI crashed 10 of them into each other but the rest were still gunning for me.. So the game AI takes advantage of the time-out save game and then plans an attack against you for when return.. :/\\!!
Ich wünsche euch ein gutes Jagd!! :arrgh!:
