Using SH3 vanilla disk transfer version and trying to use the 4 bearing hunting method with hydrophones. When I get a sound contact the Sonar man always reports bearing 000 no matter where it is coming from. I'm new to hydrophones and manual targeting. Am I missing something? Is this a bug?
What's a vanilla disk transfer version? I know of a DVD release, and a Steam download version.
If you make a turn, does the bearing change? If remains 000 then your install must be broken. (or you are reading the wrong dial) It's not a bug, as the game works perfectly normal on a huge number of other player pc's.

I found a no install version where you just unrar it and hit the SHIII.exe file and it runs without having to do an install with a disk. Been using it all along with no other problems until I tried to get the Sonar man to give his report. Not only does he say no contact but if he does it is always 000 no matter how I change course. What's strange is it works when near Wilhemshaven but not out at sea. Thanks for the quick reply, BTW.

Your problem is part of the copy protection. Just buy the disc version. The new ones only have to be in the PC to install the game, not to play it.

Ditto. There are some people who pirate disks and sell them, not that yours is. Our Subsim forum takes a harsh view of pirating so it is best to buy SHIi from a know software distribution store.
Good luck.
