I'm fairly new to SH3 (after first buying SH5 :wah:) and absolutely love this game, but i've installed GWX3 and SH3 Commander 3.2 and i'm having a few problems:
*GWX3 has changed my home port from Wilhelmshaven to Kiel, causing the problem below. Can i change it back?
*Two of the navigators search patterns have been replaced by Kiel Outbound and Kiel Inbound, which won't allow me to use the time compression above x4 for more than a few seconds in the kiel canal. This makes starting missions really tedious... .What can i do?
*Time compression in the open sea is constantly interupted by Radio Messages, friendly contacts or the need to micro-manage the crew, can these be ignored (as in SH5)...or am i just being impatient?
*How and When should I use RADAR, as I never seem to get any contacts on it?
Grateful for any help....Thanks :salute:

you have probably changed your flotilla and so your home base has changed but not sure there

this can be solved by starting your patrols at sea which is an option inside commander. this will start you outside you base however you will have to travel the long way around which will waste fuel. you can also fiddle about with time compression limits inside the game but i would very much keep the land warning at 4x so you don't end up beached upon something

you can turn crew fatigue off again in commander but as for messages i would prefer to have myself slow down in case it is a convoy report and not end up steaming in the wrong direction for an half an hour while i check my messages. again you can fiddle with it so it doesn't drop down but not advised

radar isn't available until late in 1941 which you can buy with renown. once you do obtain it you can turn it on (and will have to every time you surface from) via the radioman in the bottom left corner. its best used in foggy weather or at night really as your bridge crew can spot ships further than it can in early in the war. later on you will spend most of your transit time submerged avoiding aircraft so its not used as much

Are you trying to run an old career? You need to start a new one. Use SH3 Commander to set up your career. Be sure to choose the same flotilla (2nd) in SH3 that you chose in Commander. You will be at Wilhelmshaven.
*Two of the navigators search patterns have been replaced by Kiel Outbound and Kiel Inbound, which won't allow me to use the time compression above x4 for more than a few seconds in the kiel canal. This makes starting missions really tedious... .What can i do?
It's the game itself, not GWX or SH3C, that limits time compression when near land. Use Commander to change TC 'When Near Land' to 64 or 128. I never use the Auto-Plot for Kiel; I always set up waypoints myself. If you do up the TC near land be sure to keep an eye on it at all times. It will kill you if you give it a chance.

You might want to try the 'Radio Messages Lite' mod.

Sorry I can't help you with the radar question. I've never played past mid-1940.

H.sie's mod takes care of radio message problems:

Stiebler's addon takes care of time compression problems:

SH3Commander has an option to take micromanaging crew members off. Choose No fatigue option.
Radar is almost useless in stock and GWX since it's kind of short range. Stiebler's addon has an option to reduce your visibility in night time. In bad visibility the radar is worth having. It's difficult to use so better try it first in good visibility with a neutral or friendly ship in your sights. When you know how to use it gives you the bearing and range of ship. That makes you able to plot it's course and speed in low visibility and if you don't have a zigzagging mod on you can even shoot without seeing the ship.
