so here is the question. does anybody get sick and tired of the same music being played in game?
personally i may listen to the game music for a patrol then i need something else.
if you wish you can say what band or genre you listen to but i ask that everybody to respect everybody's tastes.

I use the radio mods that have been made, even the ones for SH4. I think there is a radio mod for German songs, and one for the BBC. But the radio mods for SH4 have a ton of music from the era. Actually, the music is a separate download, that you can add to other radio mods.
Aside from that, I listen to recordings of the youth symphonies my daughter participated in as a violist. For a bunch of kids from ages 10 to 18, they were actually very good! And their conductor studied music at the school in Prague (IIRC).

I collect all kinds of music from all of history, so ocassionally I do listen to period German music outside the game. My favorite is The Comedian Harmonists. I keep meaning to buy the 2007 movie about their career.

I have a collection of WWII movie them songs that can be downloaded from Subsim downloads. They are quite lively and will keep you awake during those long patrols.

should give them a try could you provide a link?
I trained through college as a classical bassist, so when I get immersed in the drama of this sim (well, when I'm not using the install that has "Weenie" in it), I typically have a decent rotation of popular classics going in the background. I'm mindful that perhaps not all the crew is enamored of Telemann and Bruch, so I have some noisy recordings of people from school singing things like "Die Fourelle" and popular ditties in German.
Another personal favorite is the "Planets" suite from Gustav Holst. On a personal "brush with near-greatness", if I can arrange my schedule, I may get to perform "Mars, Bringer of War" from the suite with a decent community orchestra in October. Gives me goosebumps.
And, despite the obvious cliche, it's hard not to jump to Wagner's "Die Walkure" whilst making a surface run at flank towards the beam of a convoy.
It's almost as hard to suppress a bit of a giggle as I do that. I guess it's a bit of Bernard coming out on the bridge. Somehow a maniacal cackle seems like it would be appropriate, but a giggle....I dunno....

Awesome! If it gets recorded put it up where we can see or hear it. :sunny:
I believe they do, even if it's just for internal archive stuff. If they'll make copies available to orchestra members, I'll do so.
In that case, I'll be the tall, old, hippie-looking guy on the right, standing up, sweating in a tux ;)

Recently I've gotten into Scottish marches and I've now added three cd's of bagpipes and drums into my SH3. Now I sail into battle with that hellish howling in my ears. The bad thing about it is, that listening to Scotland the Brave or The Black Bear makes me go into a maniacal frenzy and I fear I might sail right into a 1943 convoy caring very little about safety concerns :/\\x:
BTW, does anyone know where I could find a recording of the Black Bear at least 15 minutes long and with a full band of bagpipes and drums, the bigger the better, and possibly recorded live for added punch?

I normally have the music turned off but then I am usually watching a DvD on the other computer... usually submarine movies.
right now, I have Pink Floyd on, but most times it's German Military Marches.
