Interesting stuff. Maximum 16x time compression, a bit more info on how commanding multiple uboats works.
Very surprised to hear that SH5 assets would work in a Flash-based game though.:hmmm: And the lack of free roaming... just how much of a lack, I wonder?

I do wonder if we only get a view through the scope, so far we have seen nothing of views from the bridge or follow cams, AA guns etc.

I read in a german preview from the Gamescom 2012 (launched today) that only the periscope view shows you the real-time action, another 3D view is not implemented.

Maybe there's still hope for more, as I understand from this fragment of the preview:
"A quick mission I saw featured the commander’s two available submarines doubling up on a convoy. Spotting the enemy from the deck in realtime, the lower submarine waited until the middle of the convoy was directly between the two subs and fired two torpedo tubes."
Could this mean there's also a deck view in realtime:hmmm:?
"Losing a boat in combat isn’t fatal either, as you’ll be given a basic U-boat again."
Hummm:hmmm:, basic U-boat, maybe a type II? And if I lose the boat in 43-45, a basic U-boat would be......
Finally, it differs in that there doesn’t seem to be any true open roaming; the game consists of scenarios set along strict paths, set in areas like the Irish Sea or the English channel.
Mmmmmm :shifty:

Not to speak out of turn, but I don't think that is the case. :03:

The game engine through flash is limited and will only allow a tiny 3D viewing area aka your periscope. No exterior views nor going deck side.
Other than the periscope the game is 2D all the way with a static picture of 'inside' your ship with mouse click equipment operating and a 2D map.
Everything is closed ended mission areas with no open world unless you consider open roaming being you roaming around looking for targets ONCE in the mission zone. You set course for the mission area with nothing to look at but the map and to speed time up (because it can take literally a day or more to reach the mission area) you need to buy time compression credits with real money. So in short, you get to play one mission a day. Any more than that and you need to speed time up by spending $$$ to get to port and out to your next mission area. Later missions are of course further out from port so as you progress the need to spend $$$ to compress time increases.
You want to get your score higher up on the leader board and want to play with friends who are already in the mission zone so the need to 'rush back out' will always be there to entice you to spend cash. The ones at the top of the leader board of course have bottomless wallets to spend on better gear and boocoo amounts of time compression to play multiple missions back to back in one sitting.

So, we have this new idea of selling time compression to our customers, for some sweet $$$...

While trying to keep an open mind on this latest take on our beloved franchise (in spite of all that's been said),but having to buy time compression.... really ?
Will probably still give it a try, curiosity and all.

This is why I stay away of all those F2P games and despise this economic model... Too many of them tries to control when and how you can play. Definitely not my idea of gaming... I prefer buying a car once and for all rather than renting it for its whole lifetime if I want to be able to use it whenever I want (just like a bought game)

Noted from the article: "Alluitis was keen to point out that you can achieve everything without money, but that credits can be used to upgrade your ships, to remove cooldown timers on repairs, reloads, and resupplies, and to speed up travel."
WOW! Let me get my wallet so I can have an edge against other players! Also, pandas, maybe?
