Im currently in Spain for two weeks, while everyone else has been having seistas :D Ive pulled out the net book and been enjoying some of the old classics.
So I decided to coble together a decent list of free and cheap games that run perfectly on the net book - and low spec laptops.
Feel free to contribute, pretty much any 3d game released after 2000/2001 is not going to run well. but there many great oldies out there :)
One of the first things you should have on your net book is a virtual CD drive for mounting .iso disk images. here are two suggestions.
Magic Disk

Daemon tools

Games.
FPS
Doom collection + Jdoom
If you can aquire a copy of doom collection (Doom, Doom 2 & Final Doom)
Then you can install and play using a virtual Cd drive.
You can also apply a 3rd party addon (JDOOM) to give it a more modern apperance, sharper textures, 3d monsters and even mouse look controls :)
J doom can be found here:http://download.cnet.com/Doom-Jdoom-package/3000-7441_4-10266567.html

Commandos 2: Men of Courage
Detailed WW2 Stealth game, VERY hard to get into, but insanly enjoyable if you have the patience. Runs beautifully on the Netbook,
Avaliable on Steam:http://store.steampowered.com/app/6830/?snr=1_7_suggest__13
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive
Almost identical to Commandos 2^ in terms of appearance and gameplay - but in a Wild West setting. (Freeware)
http://games.brothersoft.com/desperados-wanted-dead-or-alive-download.html
Comand & Conquer: Tiberian Sun + Firestorm.
The Campaign works flawlessly, but Skirmish occasionally crashes (a bug with the orginal game that EA never fixed) Best of all its FREE to download and very easy to install http://www.joystiq.com/game/command-conquer-tiberian-sun/download/command-and-conquer-tiberian-sun-free-full-game/
Red Alert
It works, but you have to fight with it, it has several problems, first of all is has to be patched to work, then you must install it in win 95 compatibility mode. You will also need a disk image running with a virtual cd drive. (such as Magic Disk)
You have to reload the game before you load a save game or else it crashes, with Aftermath installed Skirmish mode doesnt seem to work either.

Warzone 2100:
A nice little game this, RTS with the ability to design and build your own units. The AI isn't too shabby, and the graphics are quite nice.

FreeCol:
I've never played Sid Meiers Colonization, I've never played FreeCol, but it's a Sid Meiers game, so it's probably going to be good.

Driving
GTA (Grand theft Auto 1 & 2)
Both are free and can be dowloaded and installed via Rockstars website.

Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe:
It's free, it's addictive, and can be customised with additional grfs, you want to play with British trains from 1900 to 2000, there's a grf for that, Dutch trains, yup, Yank trains, they've got it covered. All through an easy to use downloader which interfaces with the games GUI.

FreeCiv:
FreeCiv is based upon the popular Civilization series, it may not be as pretty as modern Civ games, the graphics level looks to be around the Civ II/Test of Time/Call to Power II level, but it's free and it's Civ-like. Does more need to be said?
