Hol-eee piss :o I can barely get on a roof without my brain going haywire... I probably would have pissed myself just taking the elevator up that tower.
saw about 10 seconds of the movie, then I had to shut down the page.

Those guys make good coin. If I were 20 years younger and in much better physical shape I'd take that job in a heart beat.

That is a whole lot of down.
I would have expected the tower to be swaying more.
and of course, it does not always have a happy ending

It probably is, we just can't tell from the camera.

A fall from height is a fall from height, being very high doesn't make it more fatal.

It is why they are paid more due to the hazard, though of course early death from heart failure is just a normal bonus of the job.

It's the added time of horror till you hit the ground

I'd be worried about a big gust of wind.

As a person who worked in the construction trade for many years, I have found that there are those who will and those who won't. Of course I was never any where near that high but a twenty foot fall will kill you just as well. At one time I thought nothing of walking on a 2x6 wall plate 30 feet up with no safety harness but I get dizzy just thinking about it now.
Those guys have my ultimate respect.
Great post Armistead. :salute:

I once climbed a 300 foot cooling tower at the Esso oil refinery in Antwerp and made a vow to my maker I'd never do that again if he allowed me to get back down to earth safely.
Never broken that vow to this day.
Respect to those tower workers, they deserve all the coin they make.

I wonder what the accident rate is for that type of work?
I would have safety cables all over the damn place and a parachute on my back!
Only problem is that is you have to haul everything you might use along with you. A parachute alone weighs about 50-60 pounds. That's a heavy load to haul up 1600 feet.
Besides you need to be over 1000 feet for the parachute to even have a chance of working. Anything less and it won't open in time to do much good.
I can tell you that there are two types of people that is of no interest for a company that does such job
1. People that suffer from fear of hights or have just an ince of it
2. Daredevils

Yup. Daredevils are worse than acrophobics. At least with the latter a little fear if managed properly can translate to a safer more deliberate climber. The daredevil often risks not only his life but those around him as well.
