Hi folks.. just started playing SH4 and I finding things that are causing me big problems.

1. I just got back from my 3rd mission and got awarded a new sub. I upgraded my deck gun but now find that i am unable to assign any men to it. The Aft Gun Deck crew slots that were previously there are now completely missing. See screen shot

When I am at sea however I am able to man the deck gun and select a target, select 'fire at will' yet the crew simply refuse to fire at anything. I have to end up doing it all manually despite using the binoculars to confirm target and hitting the space bar. Still no joy.

2. Also the radar that I had to complete 3 long arduous missions to earn is utterly unreadable and useless. On the Youtube tutorials on using the Radar their screens are clear, sharp, very readable with a nicely defined bearing gauge and rough distance gauge (green one)

Mine are just an impossible to read blurry red and green mess with no numerical information discernible at all rendering this critical instrument completely useless.

Is there good a mod for the radar anywhere for download please anyone?

I have installed the Ubisoft Expansion for the game and tried both the super mods that are available but in all situations the Radar is simply a ghastly blob of green and red molton lava that hurts the eye.

Thank you for your time..

Two well known bugs that have never been addressed.
The bow deck gun bug. There is no real solution. Just move the deck gun back to the stern and you will get the crew slots back. If that doesn't help, then I don't know. Ubi never addressed it. It was tried in the various mods, but the bug is in the hard coding of the game.
New sub, upgrade bug. When you get a new boat, you could lose all your upgrades and have to make sure you get them back. Again, Ubi never addressed this and the mods can't.

Oh dear... that's not very encouraging at all is it.. :(

Any ideas on getting a decent radar that's readable and useable? Obviously they exist as I have seen them in other peoples games in their screen shots and endless Youtube tutorials and they look pin sharp.

Any help or links appreciated..:woot:

I just happen to think. What year is it in your game? Radar didn't come available until I think late 1942 or '43.

I started a career in SH4... i'm on about the 4th or 5th mission and it's now 1943.. so the radar is available. It's functional, it's just rubbish.

I have this:

Other players have this!! Much more usable.

Some of the players in here have been in this forum for years... surely someone must know of a radar mod? :yeah:

The radar issues sound like a graphic issue ... just to me anyway ... the deck gun issue can be solved if you have the Latest TMO mod. There is extra folders in TMO with mods and one of them is the Deck gun Mod that will give your gun back.

come to think of it there is a radar mod in there too but I have never used it.

There is this little radar mod in the download section.

You can also try Max Optics, or the OTC mod by the same mod author.

As for the blurry image on the radar screen, I have never had that happen personally.

What would help us to help you, is to have an idea of what your computer specs are, drivers, (up to date), and sometimes that is the main issue. A set of drivers for the videocard just don't like a specific game. Then you may have to revert to an older driver. Kap top or desk top computer? And so on.

What version of SH4 are you playing? v1.4, v1.5?

Any mods, and or mega mods like RFB, or TMO?

Oh, radar becomes available by early July 1942, the SJ radar, and I think summer of '43 for SJ-1 radar.

Stange, but true, I still have a old 9800gtx, new drivers kill my frames, so I use old ones.

I'm using a hi spec Mac Book Pro and running the game in Parallels desktop.. I have tried several of the super mods as well as Max Optics to fix my radar to no avail.

The game runs superbly and all graphics are absolutely pin sharp and smooth as silk apart from the radar... I can use time compression up to 8000+ without a judder.

Well, if everything else is fine graphically, then you might want to try an older driver.

Not familiar with your system myself, but I too was having issues with the radar screen, when the arm would sweep, it left the radar screen solid white. Couldn't see a thing on it, then the latest drivers came out from Nvidia, and they solved the issue. But until then, I had to revert back to my old drivers.

There is no such thing as an older driver for my Mac. It does not exist, the embedded Windows XP Pro that I run the game within te Mac uses the Mac vid card.

Strange that only the radar is effected and nothing else. Even more graphically demanding particle things like water, smoke, fire and explosions all render just fine One would expect something a lot simpler like a rotating single colour radar screen with a simple numerical gauge to present very little problem.

Okay. Not sure if it is an issue with the MAC, or the XP Windowed mode causing the issue.

Does the XP window mode emulate it as XP with Service Pack2? Man, it's been 4 years since I had XP. Tought to remember what to ask, or recommend.
