View Full Version : game update?
I'm back in the base and now have the chance to get some mods to add.
can you say if I still need an additional mod for the game to improve?
I try to play 94%.
my mods are:
1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
TMO_Alt_engineSounds
TMO_ Metric_SpeedChart_Nomo
RSRDC_TMO_V502
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502
1.5_OTC_Metric Tools
1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 16 to 9 RSRDCv502
Stock Map Icons
You have what I would consider are the basic "must have" mods. You could even substitute TMO for RFB and still meet that requirement.
Anything beyond that is entirely up to you and how you like the game. Personally, I like also add the following mods
Easier AI for TMO 2.5
Improved Stock Environment_v3_TMO&RFB
Poul-Sound for SH4 (***i've added, removed and altered many sounds in this to my own liking, I just keep the same name because it was originally Poul's sound mod)
EAXsoundsim
Hylander_1314

NavMapMakeover is nice
NewLargeLifeboat mod combined with Webster's Real Lifeboat mod (that stops lifeboats from zipping around like they have Evinrude outboards on them.
Any of the skins for the boats that are available.
With what you have there as your base mod setup, I would try to keep most of the additions to graphic add ons for what your tastes are. Same for sound like Dignan says.
For Fleetboats click on the link in my sig, and you can also go here as there is a big collection of them:

You're ideal. My belief with supermods is that you stay as true to the vision of the creator as possible. Try to use mods that were developed with actual cooperation of the modders involved. You have a great combination and I wouldn't add much.
If you have the horses in that machine of yours, I love Capn Scurvy's 3000-yard bearing plotter for your native screen resolution. It's huge. It makes your plotting so much easier that if you can run it you'll never want to live without it again.
Other than that, boat skins and missions is all I'd mess with. Your list is an example for lots of other people to follow in my opinion!
thank you very much,
where do I put the 3000-yard bearing plotter in my list?

I would probably put it last.
I have changed my list, and the environment is added, this is a big improvement .
I have tried the 3000-yard bearing plotter but that does not work.
thank you all

Thanks for this list. Just got SH4 and Uboat missions.
I've downloaded the mega mods already, but looked for the rest of these. I found the last one, but can't find:
TMO_Alt_engineSounds
1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 16 to 9 RSRDCv502
Also, I found this file: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3139
Is that the 1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502 mentioned above? I tried a number of search options but couldn't get any results that matched.
EDIT: Oh......light dawns. I looked inside the OTC mod I downloaded from the link above, and it appears that it may be the right one, and that the Realistic Scope and aspect ratio mods are part of it, to be installed in the MODS folder through JSGME. I still don't see any reference to "031312" or RSRDCv502 in the mod I d/l. Is 031312 a date?
Still can't find the TMO_Alt_enginesounds, which I can probably live without if I can't find.

You can find the TMO_Alt_engineSounds by opening the TMO files, then open Documentation and click on Optional_mods. There are 7 Optional mods....TMO_SubTextures_FooSkin is a good one.

Ahhh....thanks for that. I'm quite new to all this modding business. Just modded SH3 with GWX3 and have been running that. It's incredible. But it was pretty much a one step process.
Looks like I'm good to go then with the basic mods for SH4.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I just got the SH4 DL version and updated to V1.4 (not Gold Edition) and trying to figure out.. Do I need to purchase the U-boat missions and update to V1.5 before I can use these mods?? :hmmm:
thanks!
Jeff
EDIT: Looking at Webster's info for GFO mod, I would need V1.5 for that. Should I get GFO first or others? I really looking for some visual & sound updates as well as game fixes.

For the latest mods, you do. But you may be able to find the old mods written for 1.4.

for the most part yes you will need to get the ubm v1.5 expansion for 90% of the mods out there.
there are about 5% of the mods that work for both v1.4 or v1.5 and another 5% of the mods that only work for v1.4 but thats only IF you can still find them (which isnt easy sometimes)
buying the expansion costs the same as just buying the gold version of the game that comes with the expansion for free so buying the gold edition of the game on a disk would be the smart thing to do. i suggest you DO NOT buy download games or at some time in the future they or your keys for it will stop working

Thanks Webster. I had bought the DL v1.5 before reading your reply. And already having some issues with mods. Some work like the 360 Bearing Plotter, and others (Green Lamp, Oaks Hud Guages) won't work at all. Even after I manually moved the files and confirmed they are there?? Do you think it has something to do with it being a DL version?

hard to say but it might, but most often the problem new players have with mods is they dont open them first.
in order for a mod to work correctly with jsgme it needs to look like this:
"mod folder/ data" and so on but it wont work if it looks like this: "mod folder/ mod folder/ data"
mods most often come with extras so the actual mod is inside the unzipped folder and THAT is the folder you need to put in jsgme not the unzipped one.
an example is you might have extras to add to the mod and image files to show what it does or "read me" files so always confirm that when you click on a mod folder the first thing you find is it has a data folder in it, that way you know its the one that goes in jsgme

Thanks again Webster. Everything looks correct. For example, with the gauges mod, I can see that it moves the DDS file(s) to the right location. But there's no original file named "Dial_us_imperial" just Dial.dds. So I even tried renaming the files and it still doesn't work. I just always get the default dials.
I'm going to de-install/re-install with Windows UAC turned off this time to see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll purchase a disk copy of the Gold version. :03:
EDIT: So during re-install, I noticed that the Dials_us_imperial.dds is there in v1.3 and after updating to v1.5, it is gone? Is this different when you use a DVD version?
