Hi all,
How do I view my sub, following it's movements, externally under water.

In the % realistic settings allow the exterrnal view camera box and then click on the round icon on the top right corner

1. I've done that, my sub keeps on moving away from my view.
2. Also, how do I view other ships around me?
3. If I install any major UI mod, I keep on getting all sorts of blank menus open which I cannot close, whether I run as administrator or not. Any help please?

Hi toschk,
I think what HennivR is actually looking for is not simply a free external camera view.
Unless I am misunderstanding the sense of his words, I guess he is looking for a chase view, like the one used in may driving and flying arcade games. :hmm2:

Have you updated your SH5 installation to v 1.2? Many mods don't support anymore former versions of the game.

Yes, I did upgrade. And, yes, I'd like a chase view that follows my sub & that I can use to pan around it, even underwater. And I'd like a chase view to pan around objects close to me.
With all UI mods, my TAI map i.e. stays blank & open in the left bottom corner & I simply cannot close it. Most other UI interface buttons work & if I select Shift Z, then it closes everything, but when I return those annoying blank open menus are back again.
The UI mod that works best & leaves only the TAI map blank & open = Ui-Boat V5.0. All the other UI mods leave multiple blank faceplates open which cannot be closed. If I can somehow configure the sim not to open the default TAI, then this mod might work perfect for me as is. TAB does not open or close it. Note: In this test I installed no other mod but Ui-Boat V5.0.
Even if I install AOTD_RDA Beta V1.03 as a stand alone mod, I experience same.

Afaik there's not such a chase view in SH5, and honestly I cannot see what would be its utility, other than for eye candy maybe :hmmm:
And I'd like a chase view to pan around objects close to me.
Enable the event camera from the main game options menu, then. I never used it too much, but when you fire a torpedo, when an enemy unit gets close to you, etc, a window showing the action should pop up.
Besides this, I think NewUI's got a feature for following nearby units in free camera view (full screen). IIRC, you should be able to toggle between any nearby unit by clicking on one of the "eye buttons" on the top of the screen.

I think there is a configurable option in NewUIs that allows you to hide automatically the TAI map, when you don't mouse over it. Another option makes the same map minimized by default when you enter scope/UZO station. The blank windows issue is not normal though and has nothing to do with the TAI map behaviour. Something has to be wrong with your mods loadout or with your game installation. :hmmm:

This is easily the reason of your problems: as far as I know, AOTD_RDA is a mod for SHIV and is not compatible with SH5. Try uninstalling it and report back ;)

I find it odd that SH5 would not have that, as it was a regular feature of SH2, SH3 and SH4, accessed via the comma (,) and period (.) keys.

I'm pretty sure this is exectly what Hennivr is enquiring about.
Unlike previous titles that feature is not included in stock SH5 unfortunatly; Not sure regarding mods though.
I miss it.

If you are using TDW's NewUIs MOD the default mode for the TAI map is open in the lower left corner of your GUI. By repeatedly using your TAB key, at least if your using Church's Keyboard MOD, you can cycle your TAI map from small in the lower left corner to full screen to gone and back. I'm not sure if this trick will work without Church's Keyboard MOD but try it and see.
Additionally, there are other options for hot keys and various things that affect the TAI map to be found on the TAI MAP tab of TDW's Options Editor application.
Let us know if this helps. If not someone will find a solution for you!

Hi,
No, afraid nothing helps. I see on the Ui-Boat V5.0 thread others are experiencing same. The suggested solution does not work for me either.
Strange that SHV does not have the next object external view feature. I used it a lot!!! I'm not a hard core SHV simmer, but I've always loved the series & I enjoy it immensely playing it my way & I use external camera a lot! What's the use of all the sea floor & under water visibility mods if I can't see it? Hope to find a solution soon.
Question: If I try to repair my SHV from my CD, will it patch back to latest version when I go online again? Or should I rather uninstall & re-install again?
Regards,
HennivR

Hi all,
Update: I uninstalled SHV & re-installed patched to 1.05. My UI mod problem still persists. I cannot close i.e. the blank TAI window at all.
Please, any help would be appreciated.

1. The latest patch is not 1.05. If game version (visible from the main menu, top right corner) reads anything but v 1.2.0, install the proper patch manually. If you own EU version of the game, you can get it from here (http://www.gamefront.com/files/16436441/Silent_Hunter_5_v1_2_EU_Patch_Standard_Edition).
2. What is your mod loadout? (list mods you have enabled via JSGME, in their actual order).
3. Does your problem persist if you disable all the mods?
P.S: seems that someone else is having the same issue as you. Look here:

Tx,
I was not patched to latest. Thought Ubisoft would do that automatically if I go online. Suspect this is my problem.
Thank you for pointing out. Downloading right now. I'll report back soon.
Kind regards,

Thank you so much mate!!! Ubisoft did all sorts of online things to my game & I mistakenly thought I was patched to latest.
Now my UI interface works!

Glad you got it sorted out
two bonus suggestions for making your SH5 experience more enjoyable, if you don't mind:
- never thrust Ubisoft 100% :D
- sometimes newcomers are a bit hasty about playing the game, getting "nonchalant" about reading readme's and instruction available on subsim forum. Had you read carefully the post #5 in this thread, it would have spared you from racking your brain until now! ;) :)

Yup mate, you are right. Problem is, I'm not so young anymore and SHV makes for a very small portion of my life although I really love it. I came from the SHIII days, so I'm not totally new at it.
However, I cannot spend all my time reading through everything posted here, although I've read quite a lot already.
There was a time in my life that I just about lived for the various flight sim forums and I created many updates myself for it which are still available for download even to this day. You'll also find a lot of software contributions from me to the Yamaha keyboard community. However, that kind of lifestyle cost me my first wife & I'll never go that route again - just not worth it.
Just a kind pointer, my actual question was and still remain: Is there an next & previous object view camera as per SHIII & SHIV? I loved that feature. It's like watching a movie in the midst of all the action & I really miss it.
I'm not a hardcore subsim player who's all out for realism & being in the dark for most of the time. Yes, I like intelligent enemy & I always install those kinda mods. However, I've always played the game my way & I enjoy it thoroughly.
I'm so glad someone pointed out how to achieve automatic targeting & it really works fine. I missed that feature a lot in SHV

You can bind keys in data/cfg/commands.cfg. Do a serch for next unit and previous unit.

If you install the mod 'NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0 by TheDarkWraith' you will have that option to go to next & previous object view camera.

I see your point about family/playing games, and how could I disagree with it?

As said by kiwi_2005, there's a function in NewUIs for moving the camera on units around our sub, but afaik no chase view, for following our sub in external camera... obviously I can be wrong on this last point, so keep checking this thread for any update by other subsim members.

ok i might of got this wrong but isn't the chase camera meaning the camera follows your uboat, DW UI has this option. Otherwise what is the chase camera?
HennivR
07-30-12, 11:44 PM
Yes,
That's what I want, a camera that can pan around my sub, even underwater and follow me instead of leaving me behind watching my sub sail off into the sunset.
Tx for the advice - I'll check it out.

MMM does not have the latest version (7.1.0) of my UIs mod. You'd have to enable it after MMM to be using the latest version.

Great,
How do I install it and still have my map updates? (Even if down scaled a bit like in MMM) I tried it as a stand alone version before (your ui mod) and even without real navigation, I think I did not have my normal sonar contacts shown on the map (I might be wrong here, I'll try again) Also, I'd like to stick to auto torpedo targeting like suggested on this forum.
I also installed your mega mod, but the realism (talking map updates here) is too high for me. As stated, I'm not really after authenticity, but rather nice & enjoyable game-play. And I stick to the missions most of the time.
Another thing, even with MMM installed, my flak gun operator does not start shooting at attacking planes like per SHIII & IV. Am I just missing something here? Is it mandatory for me to first lock the target before he starts shooting? It was not the case with the other SH versions.
As you realize by now, I'm one of the sissy players, but I thoroughly enjoy the sim in my own sort of way back from the SHIII days.
Tx for all your help & advice - It's really appreciated!
Kind regards,
HennivR
