View Full Version : Watching a nuclear blast
Back in the 1950's when we conducted above ground nuclear tests, the Air Force had these 5 men and 1 photographer stand out in the open to witness a 2K blast from an air launched nuclear missle. The blast happened at 18,500 feet above their heads. The Air Force wanted the public to know, that the radiation from something like this wouldn't be that much of a problem.:88)
Watch this video of these guys during the test, especially when the shock wave hits them. The dialog is something to listen too also, after the blast, one guy wishes more people could be there to see this!

Niiice
I think at that distance they would have been quite safe. Nuclear explosion watching was quite the past-time in the 50s, heck Las Vegas started up that way! I didn't know that they had nuclear air to air missiles though, that would have done some work on a bomber formation...:dead:
The men I feel sorry for though, are those who were ordered to walk into the area of ground zero after a ground-burst or near-ground-burst initiation.

Another reason to be grateful for Japan surrendering after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the plans for Operation Downfall there would have been between seven and fifteen atomic weapons ready to be dropped to clear the way for US troops which would have advanced through the detonation area less than 48 hours after the bomb had gone off, given them a nice healthy radiation dose thanks to the fallout.
"THAT THE BLACK PLAQUE WAS SCIENTIFICALLY CREATED BACK IN THE EARLY 1800'S AND AIDS IN THE EARLY1970'S,GOVERNME***8203;NT RECORDS HAVE SINCE BEEN SEALED OR SHREDDED AND EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PROVE SINCE THE PARTY'S INVOLVED HAVE ALL PASSED AWAY..IF AREA 51 AND THE 911 CONSPIRACY IS ANY INDICATION,WITH OUR CORRUPT GOVERNMENT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE..THUGS RULE."
The craziest comment from the video...!
