View Full Version : Problem using Downloads section of Subsim?

Hey everyone,
I thought I had broken my addiction to SH3, but then it creeped back into my life. Has anyone else had issues downloading from the Downloads section of subsim? I attempted to download the SH3 Commander mod, but it claimed I had exceeded my allowance of downloads for the day.
Thanks,
-DrZ

EDIT: Resolved by later post. Removed.
Welcome. It's a measure put in place to prevent massive downloading by people who registered themselves a short while ago, only for that reason. It should be lifted after you make some (meaningfull!) posts here in the forum to show you are serious about being a member. The best way would be to ask questions about the game. Then you'll get the downloads and extra info.

If you have received a message Sorry! You have exceeded your daily allowed download amount it is because one of three things:
2. You have been a member a long time, and you've never posted or have not posted in a long time. Solution: make a post somewhere in the forum. This post will be placed in the moderation que, and after 24 hours or less the forum will automatically enable downloads for you again. We have to do this to prevent spammers from joining, waiting a few months and then bombarding the forum with ads for Vie-gra, etc.

I prefer lurking in general, but I suppose posting isn't the end of the world!

We do appreciate it when people actually contribute to the forums. Lurking is like watching a TV show. You start to think you know the regulars, but none of them have a clue who you are. To me it's like spying or stalking.

That seems a *bit* harsh... When I have specific questions on a forum, or feel I can answer them I contribute, but for the most part I keep quiet unless I have something to add to the discussion.

I used to be the same old chap, then bumped into this shipload of rapscallions. My fellow shipmates generally make everyone feel at home, so don't be shy. Welcome to subsim :salute:

Just my personal opinion. Yours is different, and you're free to state it as well. There are more that 70,000 members here, and less than five hundred actually take part in the goings on. I really do feel like I'm being watched, always looking over my shoulder.
That said, though I post a lot and consider Subsim my home, it's not my website and I don't think the owner feels the same way I do. It's all cool; I'm just spouting off.

It's the first website I visit every day. Facebook, where I actually know about 98% of my friends (the rest, one day) is second, but that doesn't mean it's the second one I visit, it just comes second to subsim, I can go for days without looking at FB. Subsim - not so long. :D
@DrZaiusDrZaius - posting isn't too much of a problem, unlike the majority of fora out there you can ask the same question as a person an hour ago, a day ago, a year ago, and you'll not get your head bitten off. Some may point and highlight it, but most of the time your question will be answered in a polite, mature manner.
Don't have a question? Post a picture of a beautiful woman http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=176738 or what you're doing in real life http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=193647 or talk about the weather http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=196926. Got a favourite non-subsim game? Tell us http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=177
You could even just talk about the news. It's easy, and we'd love you to join in. :yeah:

Yeah, I've been lurking since... Well, a really long time. 7-8 years? I had a different forum handle (this one says I joined in March 2011, apparently), but I must have forgotten the password to that one and made a new one.

But you have a life, a wife, a bike, a job and computer skills. I have Subsim.
I'm working on the bike part, but it takes time.

Misread that.
Thought you were referring to the wife bit.

I have a bicycle, thank you very much. I was refering to motorized transportation for long-distance travel and high-speed fun.

Why you so serious Steve? Its only a game... :O:

If it was "only a game" I wouldn't bother to play it. I'm into the history, pure and simple. I consider Norman Friedman's Naval Weapons of World War One to be light reading. I got tired of "games" before you were born.
On the other hand I still collect comic books. I'm not serious, just addicted to real history. I can't play a sim for fun. I was a sailor and I miss the feel of the sea. I want my experience to feel real, not fun.

Yeah I love my history too but I only been playing SH3 for less than a year so I guess I'm still having fun looking around at all the cool stuff. Every time I play it I see something I haven't seen before. Sorry if i seemed like an a-hole. I also love comics especially war related ones.

Not a problem. I am either too serious or too silly. There never seems to be any in-between.

Actually yes. And no, I'm not quite that bad. Manic-depressive to the extreme, and somewhat obsessive-compulsive, but not dangerous.
I'm also a musician/songwriter, which should warn you to stay away from me. :dead:

I think this forum doesn't care about who has a wife, bike or serious mental disorders - in the end we all sail in the same boat of serious submarine addiction and will probably very seldom have the opportunity to meet other people elsewhere who understand this condition :lurk:

Haha! Not dangerous... Oh and yes it is a condition! All my friends think I'm mental. They don't know what they are missing out on!
