TDC stands for Torpedo Data Computer. In stock SH5 it's hidden from you; instead of using it personally, you tell the XO what information to add into it. You can see that interface in the photo below:

TDW's UI's reveal the TDC dials so that you can enter the target information personally, as in this photo:

To turn it off, you either tell the XO to turn it off, or click the small red-ringed button in TDW's TDC (actually, the red ring means it's already off; it will be green if the TDC is currently turned off, and will turn red when you switch it off.)

Thanks Buddy appreciate it, so I use the xo for auto targeting (I have to tell it aob - speed - bearing) and TDW ui if I want to manually target something ? thanks again.

XO really doesn't have anything to do with auto targeting...auto targeting is where you point your scope at a target, lock it with space bar, and shoot without any sort of input, i.e., arcade mode. The TDC calculates the necessary shooting solution based on target speed, distance, angle on bow, and the bearing at which your scope is pointing. You can use the XO to input this information by calculating it yourself and telling him the figures, or you can use TDW's UI to manually input these figures using the dials. Turning the TDC off stores whatever information is already in it (speed, distance, angle on bow) without updating the torpedo's gyro angle to match whatever bearing you're looking at through the scope.

I'm guessing that you were instructed to turn off the TDC as part of a Fast 90 attack tutorial, right? Using that technique, disabling the TDC is a necessary step because your torpedoes are going to be fired at a 0 degree angle, straight out of your boat, but you'll be looking at a different bearing when you do your shooting; if the TDC was on, it would adjust the gyro angle of the torpedoes to match your scope wire, ruining the attack.

Edit- I may be mistaken with that last bit. It's been a while since I used a Fast 90, so I may be telling you wrong. But my description of the TDC is accurate.

What?

What?
What Laconic is saying is that when the TDC button is red, it is technically "off", which means automatic mode is available. When it is green, it is technically "on", meaning that it requires manual setting of the appropriate dials to function.

maybe im reading it wrong but i just want to point out TDW UI is a mod and not something in the game

TDW UI = The Dark Wraith (a modders name) and UI= User Interface

as far as i know TDW UI is not removing auto targetting and auto targetting works fine while using that mod. it is only changing the user interface so its more realistic looking and because of that its better suited to manual targetting
