Favorite plane in existence? Mine has to be the A-10c.:rock::rock: :yeah:
Who doesnt love that much firepower.

That's a tough one. If I had to choose just one it would be the C-130 and it's variants.
Attack: A-6 Intruder
Helicopter: Mi-24 Hind
Observation: OV-10 Bronco
I also love the A-1 Skyraider. There used to be one that flew in and out of Chattanooga when I was younger. It's livery was Vietnam SAR Nakhon Phanom Thailand. I can see why downed crewmen said that was the sweetest sound they ever heard, a Sandy passing overhead.
:hmmm:
Triiiicky.
Fortunately I think I've already answered it here:

No need to remember when you can use the search function. ;)

To be fair, is not the best search function! It fact most of the time it's wholeheartedly disappointing, to me at least.
My fave? Sooooooo many to choose, flying - Vulcan, hopefully flying soon - EE Lightning, in-service - give me a while!

Yeah, it's not very good. Which is why I use google: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=site%3Asubsim.com+your+favorite+plane

But that thread is hard to distinguish (don't hate me, I've only skimmed the first page :O:) if it's aircraft on a PC, or RL.
For PC then for me it has to be JustFlight's Vulcan for FS9. I have become quite attached to the 109 in CloD though, the biggest let-down apart from the pilot is the ground-loop-ability, toughen the wings and stick proper gear on it and it'd be wonderful. :D

I never left. I dont have a pilot's licence or an A-10c. :D
I found a rather nice F-15E for FS9. This website should have a downloads section. I have a few good ones for FS9 that I can credit the author and upload. I really like my F-15, F-16, F-14, Bf-109E, Huey, BlackHawk, etc... Beautiful Virtual Cockpits.
I'm looking forward to when Accusim get around to doing their F-4 Phantom. I know they did sound recordings a while back, but if it's anything like their other releases...mmmm.... :yep:

I have an ok F-4. No virtual cockpit. I might look up this Accusim version. SkyUnlimited did a beautiful Bf-109E package.
Edit: HOLY CRAP! :o  Who pays 20$ for one plane for FS9! Forget this Accusim F-4. I'll enjoy my free one. Accusim is expensive!

$20 is just for the Accu-sim addon, the full package is probably more like $40-50, and it's for FSX alone, FS9 just can't handle it sadly.
But it's worth every single cent.
Let me give you an idea of what you get:

There is also PMDG which look a LOT of fun in terms of button pushing realism. Skybird swears by them, and they are on my list of aircraft to have a look at. But Accusim is a lot of fun. :yep:

I agree. There are some pretty looking planes there. But 20-50$? :shifty: No thank you. SkyUnlimited's 109E package was free. The very awesome F-15E Package by IRIS was free. Surclaro and Simviation have thousands of cool, free aircraft. :yeah: Yes, Accusim looks great, but the price doesnt. :nope: I cant tell you how to live your life, so dont let this ruin anything. :D

Whatever plane you strap that thing to will be my favourite.
Seriously though, I have a soft spot for the early carrier jets, F-4 and A-6 in particular. Healthy respect for the B-52, but it's not something I'd actually want to fly.
F-14 Tomcat for me. The speed, the looks, the firepower. Definitely my favorite airplane. Which makes me all the more happy that DCS/IRIS are making one!

. . . an F-111 . . .
Ooh! Forgot about Aardvarks (and Ravens), on a visit to some of the East Coast Ranges in the late '80s the staff working them always looked forward to them, even some suggestions of once one flying so low between the 'quad' - the observation towers used for triangulating the hit points - that it took out the phone cable suspended between two.
And obviously the good old dump 'n' burn is (would've been) a fantastic sight. :yeah:

Whoever said the F-104 was a "Missile with a man in it" with confidence, never saw a Mig-21

that is quite true, but, if you managed to keep it afloat, it was insanely fast
My vote goes for the Mig though. It's the only thing that keeps me from buzzing around in my prop planes.

In a straight line yes, but try and turn it... (the 104)
The MiG-21 was a deadly little sod, and a real pocket-rocket, heck some private Space guys in Oregon are looking at using a 21 to launch suborbital sounding rockets over the Pacific. The 23 was good though, enough to make the Pentagon hold back the F-15 to modify it. :yep:

F-15s are cool...... :smug:
Off topic funny bit of info- In the CFS3 PTO Solomon Islands add on, the enemy can fly Willy's jeeps through the air at you. Hilarious! :D
On topic- The MIG series, in my opinion, has put out some quality planes and some crappy ones.

Nope, let me try this in Chrome, could just be a firefox thing or a noscript thing. Let me have a tinker...
EDIT: No, and no, noscript isn't blocking anything unusual and Chrome doesn't show it either... Perhaps BT thinks that it's from piratebay and has blocked it... :O:

Berbunch's signature's existence must be some sort of conspiracy fabrication, as I cannot see it either... :shifty:
EDIT: Could it be that only someone on your friend list can see it because the location of the image is in an album on the forum? At least, that's where the link in your post goes to.

It is indeed from Cliffs cropped then edited with Photoshop. Unfortunately it was from my period of not understanding the engine controls -I can't see the prop-pitch but imagine it's set to 12 O'clock hence the oil all over the screen.
I know better now, but haven't played Cliffs for probably over a month while they get there patching in order.

Interceptor, no dogfighter.;)
Besides it's safety record with our fighter bombers was better than that of the F84 which it replaced (and from what I hear it was also better than that of the Mirage which was the alternative for our air force...but one hears a lot of things when the days are long and I'm not certain it's true...).
Actually it worked pretty well after the teething problems had been ironed out (I won't deny that this took decades and more than a hundred lives in our air force alone).

Well, I guess ex-Komet pilots felt right at home, those that were still alive that is...
But, I mean, Lockheed had to bribe countries to buy the Lawn Dart!
That being said though, on further reading, it would seem our own home grown EE Lightning took out a bigger chunk of its own fleet than the German F-104s.
I'd still rather be in the Lightning though, she can move around a bit more. :yep:

Even if you're going straight, thats still moving! :know:
....
:hmmm:
Even if you're going straight, thats still moving! :know:
Well, yes, but only if the target is going in a straight line too, which to be fair to the designers of the F-104, the targets generally were supposed to be going in a straight line, and even when you get to the first Fighter-Bomber design which was primarily based around dropping nukes, you can understand the thinking.
But when you get to a multi-role mud moving mode? It's taking it out of its element and shoving it into a role it wasn't designed for. You leave that to the Thud and Bricks/Rhinos, the Lawn Dart intercepts enemy bombers, and the Bricks and Tigers mix it up with the enemy escort.
However, I guess with the Luftwaffe expanding so rapidly, to get all those aircraft would have cost too much...still, you got a better deal with the Brick IMHO, that was a proper multi-role aircraft. :yep:
Sledgehammer427
07-17-12, 08:30 PM
you know why its called the Thud?
because that's the sound it made when it crashed at the end of the runway.
*ba-dum tss*
I'm in agreement Oberon, some great planes were killed by the end-user's need for it to fill a different role (read: Me-262)
the F-104 is a hot little ship, but when it came to turn and burn it didn't make the cut.
Boom-n-zoom are the tactics I favour. thus why both of my picks happen to be insanely fast little interceptors. I'm pretty confident in my ability to score a first time hit
I'm a turning man myself, spray and pray. Plus my eyesight is terrible so unless I get them up on the climb, I lose them in the turf. :/\\!!

Favourite plane eh? Not an easy one. Certainly not easy if I'm to pick only one so, in no particular order:
Planes: FW190, Cessna 182, DC-3, Sopwith Camel. Just sheer class.
Helis: Ok, this is easier. Alouette II hands down.
Now this would be a wet dream come true: DSC quality Alou II in a Falcon 4.0 Allied Force type campaign doing scouting, attacks, SAR etc. Now if someone happens to have a fully functional full sizer they want to give away.... :woot::har:
