Ahoy Mates!! :salute:
I've been away from the game for awhile now; at least a year. System problems, you see.
I now have a newer better faster system that runs SH3 GREAT with full AA and Ani.
In coming back to these forums, I see there's some pretty new stuff floatin about. Complete sub interiors? WITH crew? O.o wow ... also there's many add-ins I'd never used because I knew my old system just couldn't handle 'em. Things like Merchant Fleet, MEP, other high res addins ... also, I've always stuck with GWX 3 Gold because on my old system I had RIDICULOUS load times. Seriously. 20 minutes to 1/2 hr. The mere thought of testing various supermods bored me to tears. ... ... Now my load times are under 5 minutes. I'd like to see the variances between supermods.

Also, I'm currently running MaGUI and, while I DO quite like all the circular slide rules in there, I don't particularly care for the implementation of other bits, like the dials and the nav-map slideouts. I used to have a mod that put user-moveable sheets on the navmap with all that info, so i could put them anywhere and they'd stay visible when i wanted them to without holding my mouse at the screen edge. i forget what it was called.

Anyhow. Basically, I'd like some input as to what is known to work with what (or known to NOT work together) .. I THINK i want to go with OLC instead of MaGUI, but I'm really not sure. All i really want is the optics improvements and the circular slide rules (i.e. RAOBF, Attack Disc, .. uh .. speed calculator? .. and ... um AOB from bearings calculator? i forget the last two. mostly i want the RAOBF and Attack Disc. seems all one really needs)
I've read that MFM has "issues" with GWX, but then I've read that these "issues" have been resolved? Which is which? :timeout: I'd sure like to run MFM.
I've always been torn regarding MEP. Is it worth it? What does it REALLY change?
Is there anything that actually "fixes" the weather? ... I just read last nite that every time one saves it resets the weather-calculation-period? Is that true? NO WONDER my weather never changes!! D'OH ... So I have to break my save often habit and go "how many?" days before I make a save?
Um. Is there any specific order I should enable mods in JSGME?
What's with this sh3.exe patch I see? Looks like I downloaded it in the past, but I have NO idea if I ever applied it. How can I tell?

... which brings me to my last bit here ...
And I'm sure this all might make for a good laugh for some of you.

SO.
I bought SH3 for full price pretty early, so I've got the <shudder> StarForce version. I also have the Official SF Removal tool. AFAIK it is now officially sanctioned. If not I'll never bring it up again.
I'm one of those people that'll be dammed if I'm gonna buy the game again to get the SF free version. <grrr> (with my budget that would seriously be a choice between buying SH3 again OR buying SH4. I hate buying the same thing twice. The SF version works just fine as long as SF is removed)
On my old machine I was playing under Win XP Home SP3 on an Athlon XP 1800+ 1.6Ghz CPU, 1gig RAM, AGP ATI X800 512Meg Gfx. My OS broke and I had to re-install. Post re-install, I tried the PREVIOUS fully modded install of SH3 and LO! it worked just fine. No need to install and go thru the SF removal process again. YAY!!!
On my new machine I'm running Win 7 Pro 32bit, Pentium D Dual 3.4Ghz CPU, 3Gig RAM, PCI-e ATI x600 256Meg gfx (soon to be replaced with GeForce GTX560 Ti 1Gig gfx)
So I tried again. Just copied my Win XP install over to Win 7. Works almost flawlessly. There's a couple graphics glitches now and then. Easily resolvable in game. AWESOME how portable an SH3 install is, no? =D
anyhow
I USED to have a totally vanilla patched SH3 install backup. .. I can't find it. I may have deleted it to save HD space.
The one I'm running has GWX 3 Gold installed to it, and then a list of maybe 15 mods in JSGME.

I understand that to try out NYGM, LSH, RuB (missing any?) I'll have to have a fresh vanilla install. ... I've read that Win 7 has .. "issues" .. with the SF version however. Actually, i've read conflicting stories. I am, of course, nervous about allowing SF to be installed on this machine AT ALL. It already destroyed one DVD Burner on me years and years ago when I first got SH3. (but then I ddin't realize the danger at the time. now I know) :know:.. .. I guess I'm relatively comfortable running the standard install / remove SF process tho: install SH3, DO NOT RUN IT!!, patch it, run Official SF Removal Tool. ... that is correct, no?

However, regarding my GWX 3 Gold install (in the event I do NOT do a full vanilla re-install) ... I can just back out of all my JSGME mods and I'll have a "vanilla" GWX 3 gold install correct? (theoretically) Then add in whatever new stuff I want to add in. Yes? Again, what order? That can make a big difference I know, and discovering correct order thru experimentation is a serious PITA. Others experience would be appreciated. Specifically i'd like to know where to put New Interiors AND Crew, MFM and MEP, as well as other high-res ship addins. Do OLC or MaGUI have to go in anywhere in particular? .. This can all get so confusing sometimes. ..

Heck, I'm not even sue what all I actually WANT to be running. I like big dials. I really like the large Obs Scope, and the RAOBF and Attack Disc. Nav Map tools are essential as well. the GWX/MaGUI set seems good, mostly; aside from the pop-out info sheets, as I mentioned .. and I do NOT like the GWX / MaGUI dials. Too small. I used to have a nice large set of dials that popped out individually on the right side of the screen, and you could click to keep them up AND click to swap between each of the 2 versions for each dial. i.e. compass or rudder etc .. That was my favorite dial set ever, but I have NO IDEA what it was called, or what mod it may have been part of .. ... also, I'd like a flags sheet available at Attack/Obs scope and UZO .. I DO rather like the quick basic ship ID flip-outs tho. not sure which mod is giving me that. MaGui?

Also, can I just go ahead and run that new sh3.exe patch on my GWX 3 Gold install? As I said, i'm not sure If I've already done so; don't think so tho. I mean ... wolfpacks? REALLY!!! SERIOUSLY!!??? It give WORKING wolfpacks?? .. MUST. HAVE!!! :woot:.. and the lazy watch officer actually goes up on deck? by .. BY HIMSELF??

Boy i'm long-winded today, ain't I. sorry.
i think that's it tho.
hoping to order SH4 soon, but having problems using Subsim Store direct download links. I'm addressing that in the proper forum however. =D

Yarrrrrr mateys!!!!! AVAST ye me hearties yarrrrrrr
:arrgh!:
:salute:
...
also, just sank an 11,000 ton lg merchant off the e. coast of britain last nite. upon looking in my logs, it seems it was a neutral. VERDAMMT!!! it was running Lights Out off the E.Coast of Britain. Fair Game i say!!! LOL
hope i don't get punished TOO severely when I get back to Wilhelmshaven.

as it may be relevant, here's my current mods list. JSGME 2.3.1.132
==================

GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
WB's Renown Replacement
Seafloor_SF_V3_Final
LifeBoats Debris v4
Flat Sun Fix for GWX3
Sept39_Aug40_Radio_Mod
Fernglass Leitz 7x50 Binoculars
Waterstream+Exhaust Combi V2.3 for GWX3
MaGui
TMT v2
HI_REZ_MOON
ZSKIN FUBARs winterVIIB

i change that last one at will depending on the boat i'm driving and the season. IIRC I wanted to use Thompsen's Sound Pak, but it complained about a conflict I wasn't sure about ... seems other people are running it. Looking at a couple threads about who's running what. CRIMINEY such variety. I haven't even HEARD of some of the mods people are running. What the heck is GWX Commuity Ships mod? LOLZ

Also, YAY!! I found the dials mod I LOVE!! Simfeeling six dials mod. .. I will of course "just try it". I assume it'd need to go in AFTER MaGUI, if it's even compatible with MaGUI .. what's the difference between MaGUI and OLC again??
:/\\!!
GAH!! I've forgotten SO much of this stuff!!!

Say, are there any mods that alert you when you receive a new "radio contact" on the nav map? I've missed too many of them while under high time compression. Rather annoying.

and D'OH .. need the No DVD files, not the SF Removal Tool. I KNOW i downloaded the NoDVD files in the past, but I'll be damned if I can find 'em anywhere in my data archives. <sigh> that file has become RIDICULOUSLY hard to find these days. I ended up on some russian site. yikes!!
Hard to believe it's been so many years, and it's STILL the "official fix", yet we still can't link that file here. :-?
Soooo .. i don't need to run the SF Removal tool AT ALL? Just make sure I don't run SH3 until after I get the NoDVD files in there?

The more I play the transferred game, the more I think it might be broken. I've seen/heard a whole ONE ship in grid AN52, Nov. 1939, over 5 days now. Also one plane. The weather hasn't changed since I left Wilhelmshaven. My crew's fatigue seems messed up strangely. -- is there a 12 hr fatigue model out there? Is it possible to make the engine room that is NOT being used currently a rest and recovery room? Or at LEAST a no-fatigue room? That'd be great. =D

Total re-install IS in my future, i fear.
What pitfalls do I need to look out for in Windows 7? .. i ask because, well, have you LOOKED at the size of the appropriate thread?? am I really supposed to wade thru all that noise in search of signal?
Can I use the Res Fix under Win 7? What about the 4Gig fix? (i've only got 3 gigs RAM ATM, but intend to put one more in there)
