This used to be walk in the park with GWX, well almost. Then I changed to NYGM. I play with 3,6A with h.sie's and Stiebler's patches.

How I'm supposed to send those accurate hourly convoy reports when escort easily spots my boat at 8km? Then it drives me under for several hours.

Few times I actually managed to shadow a convoy was in stormy weather but that thing changes alot.

Should I start using a mod with 20km atmosphere like M.E.P v3?

There should be a mod that would correct the contact report trouble here. There is no way in hell a real life Kaleun would have needed to see at least three ships of the convoy at the precise moment when he sends a contact report. He would have radioed about the hydrophone going crazy with ships, then he would've tried to establish the speed and general course of the convoy. If he had followed the hydrophone sounds long enough, out of the range of the escorts' radar, he would have made a contact report giving the general speed and course of the convoy. And it would be quite possible that at that point he would have not seen any of the convoy's ships yet.

At least there should be a mod that marks a convoy once seen. That way you would spot the convoy once, get driven away by the escorts. And then you would follow the convoy out of harms way giving reports based on the hydrophone and your own course and speed while keeping close with the convoy.

Probably modding the game would not even be too difficult for a person that understands programming. There is probably somewhere a check that confirms that while making a report you have everything ok for a report. One should change those checks to always be ok since what is it needed for? What would happen if the game engine allowed us to make a contact report and there would not be a convoy? Maybe someone might make contact reports without first establishing the convoy's presence and course himself, but so what.

Anyone with programming skills - please help us get rid of this idiotic commissar that is keeping a pistol on our Kaleuns' heads: "No Kaleun, you can't yet send a report, there is only two escorts seen. The rest of the ships that you can hear on the hydrophone might have vanished into thin air." :Kaleun_Mad:

:yep:

And that breeds the opposite problem. If you see a convoy in bad weather and it gets away you can't send in a report, because they're no longer in sight. It's just like not being able to give a wound badge to a crewman because he's recovered, and is no longer wounded.

We tend to let ourselves forget just how many things are wrong with these games.

As to the Wound Badge problem that explains something I couldn't figure out once. I had a wounded guy but couldn't give him the badge...guess he had gotten better, haha. :)

Yep. Luckily Commander lets you override that, but you do have to write it down so at the end of the patrol you remember who it was that was wounded.

I think SH3Commander gives one the possibility of giving the wound badge to a crew member. I haven't tried that though so I'm not sure.

Yes it does. That's what I just said. With Commander you can give any rank or medal to any crew member any time.

Sorry about being a little bit late on my post. I didn't notice that you had already posted about SH3Commander...
