I just spent almost three hours running down a convoy off the British coast. I am having to dive just below periscope depth to get signals, so I knew something was not right, but I assumed another buggy SH5 issue and pressed on. I started closing and when I got within reasonable visual range, I saw nothing. I wound up diving again and still received the steady signals. The closer I got, the weirder it was because I should have spotted the merchants. After bobbing between the surface and contact depth, I was close enough to where I knew something was wrong. I surfaced and started scanning around. I was within 1000m of the contact. Something was clearly not right. I saw some oddball splashes in the water where the contacts should have been. Irked, I dove one last time. The contacts were less than 200m away. Upset, I got on the hydrophone myself (which I rarely do in SH5 because the hydrophone station is broken in one frame or fashion) to see what my hydrophone operator was picking up.
What greeted my ears when I manned the station?
A POD OF DOLPHINS CLICKING AND LAUGHING AT ME!!!!
DOLPHINS!!!! I spent three hours running down DOLPHINS!!!! :Kaleun_Mad:
Needless to say, I wanted to kick my hydrophone operator's head in and fire him out a torpedo tube for having me chase DOLPHINS!!!!
I finally surfaced for the last time and broke out my binoculars. Sure enough, Flipper and his buddies were having a grand old time at the expense of the stupid Kaleun who had been chasing them.
