Hello all. I'm playing version 1.5 from Steam. I've got the following mods enabled:

1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
RSRDC_TMO_V502
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1

I'm on Win7 64. My Steam install is still in Program Files (x86). Hardware is Alienware M17Xr3 with AMD Radeon HD 6870M.

Game runs and looks great until I try to end patrol when I've actually killed something. I've tried running out, grounding my sub, refueling at Midway and then ending back at Pearl and I can do all that. I only crash when I try to return to Pearl and end my patrol when I've made kills. Anyone know what's causing this?

This is rather frustrating as I never get to advance. I'm getting quite good at killing Japanese in early '42. I've tried both Tambor and Gato classes and had the same problem so I know it's not boat specific.

I've tried repairing the install through Steam and then re-enabling the mods. I've not tried different combos of mods though.

Thanks for your help.

Try to install the game in a folder called "games" or something, not in program files.

example:

C:\games\ubisoft :salute:

I moved my whole Steam install out of Program Files (x86). It seems to have worked. New path is
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunters wolves of the pacific

I just returned from my first patrol with a Nagara Maru in my logbook and it let me end the patrol. I don't like bringing back torpedoes but my curiosity got the better of me and my second patrol sector was about as inhabited as Mars.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I was on the fence whether to continue troubleshooting or just write it off. I'll get back to you when I've pushed it a little harder. I figure a few saves during patrol, multiple kills and maybe taking some damage should tell me whether it's going to be reliable or not.

Again, thank you.

I also had this problem. Re-installing to the same folder that my SH3 is in outside the programs folder does seem to have fixed it though. It was so annoying, there I was with 48,000 tons of merchant ship and the shokaku carrier to my credit and the AI was doing everything to stop me getting home. When I finally arrived at pearl and tried to dock it then CTD everytime [I always save before trying to exit] dateline mid 1942. I now have another problem. I'm running stock 1.4 with RFB 1.4 enabled [cannot afford U-boat 1.5 addon due to very bad financial situation at present all money has to be spent on food/bills] when I finish a patrol and the award screen comes up and says that I have been awarded such and such, there are the words NO MEDALS on the picture of the medal awarded, and although it says in the log "award" it is not credited and does not appear in the medals box on the desk, anyone know why this happens? Michael.

Not sure but i think it is RFB that writes that.

I am still having issues returning to base. I save before I get into range, I save again once I have the icon available and I almost always CTD at least twice before I actually make it to the ending patrol dialog. It is annoying but at least I can do a campaign now. I started 15Apr42 and I've just started my fourth patrol.

One positive side effect of all this is that my dead crewmen come back to life somewhere in the crash, reload, try again cycle. I guess he was only mostly dead.

SilentPrey, try installing the 4gig patch/utility from the D/L section. This program allows SH4 and other programs to use 4gigs of memory. I had the exact same issue as you, and this fixed it.:yep:

Has anyone managed to use the 4gig patch with the Steam version? It keeps telling me I don't have a recognized version of sh4.exe.

That's because sh4.exe is in Steam folders. The computer does not check for that. So you either have to do it manually or forget about it.
